Act of Valor, Part II.. Warriors run to the sound of the guns, Hero’s stand valiant facing death, Updated.

Why is it?

That as the truth of what happened in Benghazi comes out and the outright distortions of the administration are exposed, that the only sources covering the story are foreign, mostly British, newspapers and web-based news-writers? Some of the stories are now over a month old, I’ve even done a search on the NYT’s database looking for stories about the ex-Navy Seals, Tyrone Woods, and Glen Doherty. They were not employed by the State Department to protect the Ambassador or the compound but were private contractors with quite a different mission.  Mostly American Media News-sources continue to repeat the same bland lie that these men were part of Stevens security protection and as such could be expected to be among the causalities. Perhaps even implying  they failed at their job and merit some of the blame for the ambassadors death.

Except that wasn’t their job or their responsibility. They began the fight, neither armed or armored for battle, taking from irresolute and unreliable Libyan security guards what weapons they could. They stood and fought for two hours protecting consulate  personnel while a US drone circled overhead and Washington did nothing.  It wasn’t their fight and the odds were crazy bad and we don’t know the details of the battle except that the British papers are crediting them with the survival of twenty consulate staff.

Someday the whole story may be known and I guess that the only venue that most Americans will pay attention to will be a movie with a big Hollywood star. Or if they are smart, they will do it the same way (same cast?)  as “Act of Valor“. Real Navy Seals! (There is a rumor floating around that one of the deceased Benghazi ex-Seals was the shooter that killed the Somali pirate and saved Captain Phillips in 2009, true or not, it will be in the movie.)

Captain Renault: I’ve often speculated why you don’t return to America…. I like to think you killed a man. It’s the Romantic in me.

Warriors run to the sound of the guns, Hero’s stand vigilant facing death.

You never lived to see
What you gave to me
One shining dream of hope and love
Life and liberty

With a host of brave unknown soldiers
For your company, you will live forever
Here in our memory

In fields of sacrifice
Heroes paid the price
Young men who died for old men’s wars
Gone to paradise

We are all one great band of brothers
And one day you’ll see we can live together
When all the world is free

I wish you’d lived to see
All you gave to me
Your shining dream of hope and love
Life and liberty

We are all one great band of brothers
And one day you’ll see – we can live together
When all the world is free

U.S. officials clarify administration description of two heroes in Libya attack

Ex-Navy Seals weren’t part of ambassador’s security detail but rose to occasion, officials now confirm

The Independent, UK. Sept 14th.

Exclusive: America ‘was warned of embassy attack but did nothing’

October 25th, Fox News, excerpt …

The fighting at the consulate was over within an hour, according to recently leaked State Department emails obtained by Fox News. Officials in Washington reading those cables may have thought at the time that the attack was over, but it is now clear this was a two-pronged assault on two separate locations, spanning more than six hours.

At 4 a.m. local time — 6 hours and 20 minutes after the initial attack began — former Navy SEALs Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty were killed at the CIA annex by a mortar shell. The machine gun they were firing was caked in blood, suggesting they continued fighting after being hit.

“The last two casualties occurred well over six hours after the initial attack,” McCain and Graham noted. “It is disappointing to hear that our national command authorities failed to try to reinforce the consulate with timely air assets, and that a consulate located in one of the most dangerous regions in the world was so unsecured.”…

Go Back Mitt! It’s a trap!

When I read that the site of the second debate between the Businessman and the Muslim was going to be at Hosftra University I knew the fix was in…

I went to that school (many, many moons ago) it is a commuter college on Long Island, bluer than blue bastion of intolerant liberal behavior. Now I like the Jewish People (at school I just loved the Jewish girls) but the actions of the New York Liberal Jew is a mystery to me. Add to that the proximity of a large urban black population which will, of course, be heavily represented in the audience and CNN’s Candy Crowley as moderator…Ambush!

Michelle Makin is trying to sound the alarm…

A reminder about the last plant-infested, CNN-run town hall debate

But Crowley is already making noises that she plans to circumvent the agreed-upon rulesand take control:

In a rare example of political unity, both the Romney and Obama campaigns have expressed concern to the Commission on Presidential Debates about how the moderator of this Tuesday’s town hall has publicly described her role, TIME has learned.

While an early-October memorandum of understanding between the Obama and Romney campaigns suggests that CNN’s Candy Crowley would play a limited role in the Tuesday-night session, Crowley, who is not a party to that agreement, has done a series of interviews on her network in which she has suggested that she will assume a broader set of responsibilities. As Crowley put it last week, “Once the table is kind of set by the town-hall questioner, there is then time for me to say, ‘Hey, wait a second, what about X, Y, Z?’”

That sounds fair <sarc/off>

And then of course, they will be the shills…

Concerned Undecided Log Cabin Republican supporter David Cercone = Obama supporter David Cercone

I know why Mitt Romney agreed to this poison pit location, the Media has done a great job of shutting down all favorable neutral not-negative coverage of his campaign. These “debates” are the only chance he is going to get to get his character shown to the American public, but this is going to be ugly, very ugly.

Boldly Into The Breach Will the real life story of incredible bravery, and the extreme courage of warriors Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods be lost just because of Machiavellian politics ?

Updates as more information is coming through. Even if the true story of their heroism casts an uncomfortable light of truth upon the lies told by President Obama and his administration we will tell it. They deserve it.

I hate to burst anybody’s bubble about the ‘miraculous’ survival of Cologne Cathedral in WWII, but it was anything but that.  When my parents were touring the cathedral years ago and the tour guide began describing this miracle, my father, who actually had bombed Cologne, whispered to my mother, “We left it standing because it was perfect for targetting the rest of the city.”  On the same trip, sitting at a cafe enjoying his morning weiss beer and veal sausage, a local struck up a conversation with him, eventually asking, “Have you been to Cologne before, Herr Malone?”  My father casually replied, “No, but I’ve flown over it a couple times. . .”

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, DVD. UPDATED (Oct 30th).

There are some marketing people that need to be recognized for their efforts and clever wit. The best way to reward them would be, I think, to lower them head first into a vat of boiling movie “butter”.

Well, they got me. I’m sitting here waiting for a response to an email I sent to an online vendor, I blasted them for selling me a DVD-R (burnt copy) of the American remake of “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”.

It will probably be one of those, “Use small words explaining it to this idiot” type of emails.   I hate it when I let myself in receive that type of email or phone call.

If you are not familiar with the plot of this Swedish book, movie and American remake, the main character Lisbeth is a computer hacker. Computer hackers commonly steal video and music content. They “burn” the pirated copy onto DVD-R disks. So, with that as the backstory, this is what I received in the mail…

Since I had paid $3 for a former rental copy I assumed that the rental store had substituted a copy for the original disk and the re-seller hadn’t caught it before shipping it out.

What I didn’t do before dashing off my outraged email was flip the disk over and examine the data side.  After sending the email I did look at the shinny side as I slipped it into the player to see if played.  The shiny side. Was. Shiny.   Very Shiny. DVD-R disk are dark since they are based on thermal dye. This disk was shiny. It. Was. Not. A. Burner Disk.  Lastly there are faint codes pressed into the center around the spindle hole.  Literally my last faint hope of not being an idiot.

The disk is a real pressed, commercial DVD.   Some marketing genius thought that this was a funny, clever, attention getting idea. The genius should browse through the product review page on Amazon.Com, of the one star (terrible) reviews it seems a lot of those people are awarding the one star because they think they were sold a burner. Very successful marketing!

Did you know that Amazon doesn’t let you recall emails to the marketplace vendors?   So now I await for their response.

Igor! Hows the boiling movie butter coming?

Update: Well here’s a unexpected result to all this!   The Amazon marketplace vendor that I actually received this movie from did send me a response, just not the one that I was expecting. The company goHastings processed an refund and even indicated that I needn’t return “the defective product”.

Previously, I tried, but couldn’t retrieve the product complaint on Amazon’s site, I did send an follow-up message that I had made a mistake but apparently goHastings immediately processed the refund upon receiving the first message and I just got off the phone call I made to them (when I got the refund message) and they can’t un-process the refund.

Can customer service be TOO good?   Now I feel worse, besides already feeling stupid, now I feel guilty.   I think I’ll go watch cartoons…

Update (Oct. 30th) :

Film buyers fooled by Sony’s ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ DVD joke

Sony Pictures have designed their ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ DVD to look like a pirate copy of the film, much to the horror of DVD renters.

Welcome to the club.

From “The Captain’s Journal”…

Goodbye To The Army And Marines: Political Correctness Has Taken Over

BY Herschel Smith

…On the other hand, because of political correctness, in the Spring of this year, US Army Lieutenant Colonel Matthew Dooley was condemned by the Joints Chiefs of Staff (JCS) and relieved of teaching duties at Joint Forces Staff College for teaching a course judged to be offensive to Islam.  The course he taught, Perspectives on Islam and Islamic Radicalism, was an elective course that Lt. Col. Dooley’s superiors judged as presenting Islam in a negative way. His superiors were persuaded to come to this conclusion after receiving an October 2011 letter in which 57 Muslim organizations claimed to be offended by the course.  The fact that Lt. Col. Dooley is a highly decorated combat veteran with  nearly 20 years of service under his belt apparently held little or no sway with the JCS.  As a matter of fact, JCS Chairman General Martin Dempsey “personally attacked” Lt. Col. Dooley on C-Span on May 10, 2012, during a Pentagon News Conference…

As the article goes on to record, slots at Ranger School are now being given to women. And women still can’t (legally or physically) serve in combat.

Of course the reason for this is that women are demanding promotions to the upper ranks including slots that require certain “tickets” get punched. And Ranger qualification is one of them.

But at some time in the future (and it may be happening now) an American Soldier is going to need another trained, capable soldier at his back and that soldier won’t be there. Instead, eventually, some female general office with a Ranger Tab on her chest will influencing or even directing the actions and be responsible for the lives of our soldiers. To what result, God knows.

We don’t have a huge army of draftees anymore, all the men on the front lines are volunteers and professionals. We owe them the assurance that we will not continue to play political correct games with their lives.

I’m not going to hold my breath…

Here’s where I get in trouble…
