Bar Stool Economics

A story that explains the risks inherent in vilifying those who pay the lions share!

BAR STOOL ECONOMICS

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing. Continue reading

post Debate thoughts.

The truth about the tea party

from JOE SCARBOROUGH

Joe attacks the political meme that the Tea Party is hurting the Republican Party, as he points out…

— They energized a conservative movement battered by eight years of bloated Republicanism,

— they shocked the political world by taking Ted Kennedy’s seat,

— they put Obama Democrats in a constant defensive crouch,

— they led the resistance against “Obamacare,”

— they helped bring about the largest legislative landslide in U.S. history in 2010,

— they grabbed six seats in the U.S. Senate that year,

— they helped elect six governors,

— they helped win 700 seats in state legislatures, and

— they helped elect a Republican majority that included the largest number of Republicans elected since 1946.

So the real reason that many people on the left are trying to drive a wedge between the GOP (and all moderates) and Tea Party supporters is that they have been effective.

And we will continue doing what we are doing until we have broken the back of the Democratic Party’s left wing.

Sharp reaction to Obama’s ‘bayonets’

Monument honors U.S. ‘horse soldiers’ who invaded Afghanistan

Obama’s apologists are pointing out that he only said the US military uses “fewer” bayonets and horses, not that we don’t use them at all.  But it think it was clear that his arguement is in support of the kind of high-tech “drone” warfare he prefers to wage; death from above, death without warrant or quarter, death that often sacrifices any hope of future intelligence from interrogation.  For a “Noble Peace Prize” winner, he gets off on sending machines to kill men.

But his drones, if they had existed, would have been useless in 2001 in Afghanistan. They could not have done the job the Army Special Forces did, gaining allies among the Afghans and following the Taliban over the rough ground at the same speed as our friends and our foes.

And try to slit a throat at night with a drone, quietly.

Obama does not understand war, he does not understand men, he does not want to take one dollar away from his federal give-away to his wretched indolent supporters.

Back from weekend away, world still crazy.

Had a nice weekend in Long Island visiting friends, photos to come.

Here’s a item that caught my eye, British Paper again.

They’re not the type of people we want here’: Wedding planner at Goldfinger hotel sends snobby email meant for colleague to bride

  • Pauline Bailey, 27, had her heart set on marrying fiance Paul Carty at five star Stoke Park Hotel in Buckinghamshire
  • But the bride-to-be was left stunned after blundering staff at the plush hotel accidentally sent her an internal e-mail in which the couple were deemed unsuitable for the swanky venue

By Kerry Mcdermott

A bride-to-be who had set her heart on holding her wedding reception at a five-star hotel that features in James Bond movies has been left heartbroken after staff deemed the couple unsuitable for the exclusive venue.

Pauline Bailey, 27, burst into tears after a blundering wedding co-ordinator at Stoke Park Hotel accidentally sent her an internal e-mail in which she sought advice on how to ‘put off’ the couple, because she believed they were not the ‘type of people’ the venue aims to attract.

They were quite happy to pay the 10,000 pound amount quoted by the hotel, and sucessful enough to afford it.    Of course, the hotel could only get away with this because they are white.

And then there is this mystery from Florida…

Two off-duty Florida officers fatally shoot armed (?), naked woman

Lt. Cinda Moore, a spokeswoman for the Hernando sheriff’s office, said in an email late Saturday that she could not immediately identify the woman or disclose the weapon she was carrying. She said she also could not comment on what the woman specifically said or did or whether she was told to drop the weapon…

Three days later the Tampa police have not released any information about the “weapon”, witnesses have stated that just before the shooting the woman was holding a crucifix, and not acting in a threatening manner.  Unidentified sources say that after the woman was fatally shot the police recovered that cross in the home she shared with her boyfriend and it will be claimed that she was holding an antique, inoperative gun that was in the house.  (Whats the problem, the cops weren’t holding a throw-a-way piece?) Why would this woman, if she recovered her wits sufficiently to find her way home, not dress but go back outside naked with a non-working weapon?

Is the delay because someone in the Tampa police higher command is having a hard time going with this scenario? By the time the “Antique” gun comes out of the police lab will it have a laser bored .50 bolt action with attached laser sights?  This stinks.

Wise thoughts for the day…

As I Age . .

As I approach my twilight years, I am struck by the inevitability that the party must end. And one clear, cold morning after I’m gone, my spouse will awaken in the warmth of our bedroom and be struck with the pain of learning that sometimes there isn’t “anymore.”

No more hugs, no more special moments to celebrate together, no more phone calls just to chat, no more “just one minute.”

Sometimes, what we care about the most gets all used up and goes away, never to return before we can say good-bye, say “I love you.”

So while we have it, it’s best we love it, care for it, fix it when it’s broken and heal it when it’s sick.

This is true for marriage…..And old cars. And children with bad report cards, And dogs with bad hips. And aging parents and grandparents. We keep them because they are worth it, because we are worth it.

Some things we keep — like a best friend who moved away or a sister-in-law after divorce. There are just some things that make us happy, no matter what.

Life is important, like people we know who are special. And so, we keep them close!

Suppose one morning you never wake up, do all your friends know how you really feel? The important thing is to let every one of your friends know your true feelings, even if you think they don’t love you back.

So, just in case I’m gone tomorrow, please vote against that asshole Obama.

Thank you Theo, I feel the same way…

Doug: Early Halloween greeting (repost from 2012)

Early Halloween Greeting
T’was the night before elections
And all through the town
Tempers were flaring
Emotions all up and down
I, in my bathrobe,
With a cat in my lap,
Had cut off the TV,
Tired of political crap.
When all of a sudden,
There arose such a noise,
I peered out my window,
Saw Obama and his boys.
They had come for my wallet,
They wanted my pay,
To give to the others,
Who had not worked a day!
He snatched up my money,
And quick as a wink,
Jumped back on his bandwagon,
As I gagged in the stink.
He then rallied his henchmen,
Who were pulling his cart,
I could tell they were out,
To tear my country apart!
‘On Fannie, on Freddie,
On Biden and Ayers!
On Reid, On Pelosi,
He screamed at the pairs!
They took off for his cause,
And as they flew out of sight,
I heard him laugh at the nation,
Who wouldn’t stand up and fight!
So I leave you to think,
On this one final note,
IF YOU DON’T WANT SOCIALISM
GET OUT AND VOTE *
GOD BLESS AMERICA , OUR ONLY HOPE
