Obamacare’s chickens coming home to roast, err…Roost.

Obama’s Electronic Medical Records Scam

Here’s more evidence that government “cures” are inevitably worse than the “diseases” they seek to wipe out. Buried in the trillion-dollar stimulus law of 2009 was an electronic medical records “incentive” program. Like most of President Obama’s health care rules, this top-down electronic record-sharing scheme is a big fat bust.

You know who is benefiting from the initiative? Put on your shocked faces: Obama donors and cronies.

“We’ve literally put all of our new product development on hold … so we can afford to pay the stupid tax.” [Darleen Click]

That would be the ObamaCare tax on medical devices – everything from tongue depressors to insulin pumps.

[O]ver at Uresil, LLC, in Skokie, Ill., the layoffs have already started. The company laid off six people from its 52-person workforce this year, “primarily related” to the tax, President Lev Melinyshyn said.

“We had never laid off anybody,” he told FoxNews.com. “We bought the company in 2004, never had a layoff. In fact, even during the recession, we added jobs. … It wasn’t until this tax hit us that we had to do it.” […]

The Affordable Care Act imposed the 2.3 percent tax on medical devices with the goal of raising nearly $30 billion over the next decade. Manufacturers say the impact of the tax is far greater than meets the eye — the 2.3 percent tax is on gross sales, meaning it’s a much greater percentage of net income.

Melinyshyn, for instance, said his total tax burden on profits will rise from 43 percent to 65 percent next year.

Health care costs rise far faster than wages; squeezing middle-class families

Health insurance costs for the average family have risen more than five times faster than incomes in the last decade, according to a new study from Commonwealth Fund.

Obamacare: You get less than half the value at more than twice the price!

I think Democrats call that “fairness”.

Cops to Congress: We need logs of Americans’ text messagesbigbrother

State and local law enforcement groups want wireless providers to store detailed information about your SMS messages for at least two years — in case they’re needed for future criminal investigations.

Hanni Fakhoury, a staff attorney at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, said he would be skeptical of the need for a law mandating that text messaging data be retained.

“These data retention policies serve one purpose: to require companies to keep databases on their customers so law enforcement can fish for evidence,” he said. “And this would seem to be done against the wishes of the providers, presumably, since…some of the providers don’t keep SMS messages at all.”

Street artist behind satirical NYPD ‘Drone’ posters arrestedd10-post-480

The NYPD’s response seems to have proven Attia’s point: months after forensics teams and a “counter-terrorism” unit was spotted on the scene, the NYPD last Wednesday successfully tracked down and arrested the 29-year-old art school vandal, who identified himself in the video as a former “geo-spatial analyst” serving US military operations in Iraq.

12-12-12

Lucky 12-12-12! Demand for weddings and C-sections soar as brides and moms-to-be take advantage of last triple digit date for 100 years

12-12-12: AN AUSPICIOUS DATE

Fourth generation Psychic Medium, Linda Lauren, tells MailOnline:

’12-12-12 is a day that ushers in positive energy and the chance to create wonderful new beginnings in life.

‘To have a child delivered on this date is auspicious because the date is one of of pending prosperity and love.

‘I see 12-12-12 as beneficial to the fulfilment of dreams.  And what better dream to fulfil than to embrace the energy of a newborn and a new life! It’s the perfect day to become a parent.’

Reminds me of a joke.

Man leaves his house, finds seven pennies on the ground near his car. Later that morning after buying a half dozen donuts he opens the bag and counts seven. At lunch the check comes to seven dollars and seventy-seven cents. Inspired he checks the sports page, the seventh race that day has a horse named “Lucky Seven”.  So he calls his bookie and places seventy dollars on “Lucky Seven” at seven to one odds.

The horse comes in seventh.

I didn’t claim it was a GOOD joke!

Smokie the Bare…

And now a few words about home (mandated) smoke detectors.

kidde_firex_i5000_2The suspect

As I’m sure everyone is aware there is an unwritten law that all smoke detector batteries will fail in the middle of the night, never in the afternoon or the morning, sometimes in early evening but only if you are watching a video. Or otherwise entertaining yourself.

One non directional beep, (loud but non directional). We have a new house (seven years old) and in the house the mandated number of smoke detectors are six. I can see the logic of the placement of most of them though I did argue about the location of unit in the upstairs landing, located on the high ceiling directly above the balcony railing, I asked if it could be placed back 3 feet so if I need to get it down to change the battery I am not balanced on the edge of the 14 foot precipice above the living room floor. Sternly told that the mandated location was intended to detect smoke coming up from the kitchen and that moving it to the middle of the landing where I had requested it might in the case of a fire result in a three or 4 second delay before the smoke activated the detector.   The twice yearly risk of tottering on a step ladder to change the battery was not a consideration (after all household accidents are not their department).

So six smoke detectors and in new construction all six are wired together. Here the reason is so that when one of detectors is activated, all the houses smoke detectors, no matter how far apart, will sound simultaneously. Each smoke detector is powered jointly by house current and a 9 V battery, or so I’m told. But if the smoke detector is running on house current 99.9% of the time then why do the batteries need to be replaced once or twice a year? Frankly as an engineer these devices don’t impress me. Ick… & Whoops!

Hugh Hefner and Crystal Harris are reportedly headed down the aisle once again

— though technically they’d be hitting it for the first time, after she pulled the runaway-bride thing on him five days before their planned wedding in June 2011. The 86-year-old and the 26-year-old are allegedly engaged again and aiming to say their vows on New Year’s Eve. [Hefner’s funeral laid on for January 3. His epitaph? “He came and he went.”]

Remote U.S. base at core of secret operations

Predator drones in particular are more prone to mishaps than manned aircraft, Air Force statistics show. But the accidents rarely draw public attention because there are no pilots or passengers.

As the pace of drone operations has intensified in Djibouti, Air Force mechanics have reported mysterious incidents in which the airborne robots went haywire.

In March 2011, a Predator parked at the camp started its engine without any human direction, even though the ignition had been turned off and the fuel lines closed. Technicians concluded that a software bug had infected the “brains” of the drone, but never pinpointed the problem.

“After that whole starting-itself incident, we were fairly wary of the aircraft and watched it pretty closely,” an unnamed Air Force squadron commander testified to an investigative board, according to a transcript. “Right now, I still think the software is not good.”

The great man, Where are the real women?

Winston Churchill predicted the future — many times

Churchill: The Prophetic Statesman

514hvqwWp6L._SS500_

As a reader I consume a lot of books on history, my brief college career was a major in history and political science. I’ve always believed that the statement, “those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it”, is a self-evident truth.

As has been said by other and wiser minds than mine, today’s Democratic Party is not your grandfather’s Democratic Party. The party was poisoned by its far left wing and died somewhere around 1975. The average voter today thinks that by withdrawing from Iraq prematurely and withdrawing support from Israel is somehow promoting peace in the future, they couldn’t be more wrong. President George Bush spent an immense amount of blood and treasure first conquering and then pacifying Iraq and he did it the goal of creating a democratic Arab state to counter Iran and as a counterweight to the adjacent radicalized Arab nations on its border. George Bush paid attention to history and its lessons. Unfortunately all is being thrown away by the hasty exit from Iraq that left no  stabilizing American presence. As it looks now all of President Bush’s work may soon be undone.

The war on mensnowwoman

The battle of the sexes is alive and well. According to Pew Research Center, the share of women ages eighteen to thirty-four that say having a successful marriage is one of the most important things in their lives rose nine percentage points since 1997 – from 28 percent to 37 percent. For men, the opposite occurred. The share voicing this opinion dropped, from 35 percent to 29 percent.   Believe it or not, modern women want to get married. Trouble is, men don’t.

And in doing so, I’ve accidentally stumbled upon a subculture of men who’ve told me, in no uncertain terms, that they’re never getting married. When I ask them why, the answer is always the same.

Women aren’t women anymore.370e37d3-8ffc-4b27-bfd9-5a9e0eae4a97 Continue reading
