What a day this has been…

SEALs slam Obama for using them as ‘ammunition’ in bid to take credit for bin Laden killing during election campaign

Chris Kyle, a former SEAL sniper with 160 confirmed and another 95 unconfirmed kills to his credit, said: ‘The operation itself was great and the nation felt immense pride. It was great that we did it.

‘But bin Laden was just a figurehead. The war on terror continues. Taking him out didn’t really change anything as far as the war on terror is concerned and using it as a political attack is a cheap shot.

‘In years to come there is going to be information that will come out that Obama was not the man who made the call. He can say he did and the people who really know what happened are inside the Pentagon, are in the military and the military isn’t allowed to speak out against the commander- in-chief so his secret is safe.’

Time wounds all heels.

Victims of Communism Day

Victims of Communism Day

I suggest that we instead use it as a day to commemorate those regimes’ millions of victims. The authoritative Black Book of Communism estimates the total at 80 to 100 million dead, greater than that caused by all other twentieth century tyrannies combined. We appropriately have a Holocaust Memorial Day. It is equally appropriate to commemorate the victims of the twentieth century’s other great totalitarian tyranny. And May Day is the most fitting day to do so. I suggest that May Day be turned into Victims of Communism Day….

I’ll drink to that.

Now about those other idiots…Occupy

I really hate the “Obama ate a dog” meme. But Bill Whittle does a good job of illustrating the real point about that…

He hates us, he really hates us…

Stake through the heart, what harm could it do? (kidding, for now)

Credit where credit is due.

Bin Laden raid began long before Obama arrived

Shortly after bin Laden met his maker last spring, courtesy of U.S. Special Forces and intelligence, the administration proudly announced that when Obama took office, getting bin Laden was made a top priority. Many of us who served in senior counterterrorism positions in the Bush administration were left muttering: “Gee, why didn’t we think of that?”

The truth is that getting bin Laden was the top counterterrorism objective for U.S. intelligence since well before the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

This administration built on work painstakingly pursued for many years before Obama was elected — and without this work, Obama administration officials never would have been in a position to authorize the strike on Abbottabad, Pakistan, that resulted in bin Laden’s overdue death.

As a recent story in the WSJ said, no American president has EVER taken so much of the credit to himself while giving scant lip service to our men on the front lines who actually ran the risk and did the deeds.

Of course, no one would call this S..(H**&  an American.

Why they need it I don’t know?

The King says, I need to be amused!

Like Government Motors, the Post Office is at its heart a pension and employee benefits plan which occasionally performs a useful service. All while reliably delivering votes for Democrats of course.

Sometimes I don’t need any more from an article then the right line.

Or Joke…

Baby’s First Doctor Visit

A woman and a baby were in the doctor’s examining room, waiting for the doctor to come in for the baby’s first exam. The doctor arrived, and examined the baby, checked his weight, and being a little concerned, asked if the baby was breast-fed or bottle-fed.

‘Breast-fed, ‘ she replied..

‘Well, strip down to your waist,’ the doctor ordered.

She did. He pinched her nipples, pressed, kneaded, and rubbed both breasts for a while in a very professional and detailed examination.

Motioning to her to get dressed, the doctor said, ‘ No wonder this baby is underweight. You don’t have any milk. ‘

‘I know,’ she said, ‘I’m his Grandma,
But I’m glad I came.’

(My mother, aged 84, loved this one and asked me to print it out for her club)

Boast of being near the Coast, NSRWA clean up.

The winds have been unpleasantly strong, so I have been doing other things (other than paddling…that’s paddling boats not bottoms never mind).  Biked down to Webb Park in Weymouth this week, downhill most of the way, uphill all the way back.

The early spring, unseasonal heat then this current seasonal cooler temperatures have resulted in the best and longest lasting flowering tree display I can remember.

One of the images lost in the house fire was a nice shot of this flagpole framed through the blossoms of the trees that frame the entrance. I’ve tried to duplicate that shot.

Nope, the original was better. Update: Found a copy, what do you think?

Shot on film, scanned and edited about 2002.

I keep forgetting to use the flash to fill in the closer, lower part of the picture. Then the color of the sky and clouds can be seen.

On Saturday the NSRWA’s 25th Annual Clean Up happened, and I was there.

NORTH AND SOUTH RIVERS WATERSHED ASSOCIATION

I was assigned to the rest stop and approach to the 3A bridge over the North River. Remember that bridge?

Yes, he did.

That was July, no one was jumping today. We just picked trash. I picked up two bags of trash, one and a half of recyclables. Included in the recyclables, more Nips than I ever seen. For the non-locals, Nips are the 50ml bottles of alcohol sold from behind the counter at New England liquor stores. I understand that in other parts of the country they are called mini’s, shots, or pony’s.

Most of the nips came from the area over the fence at the rest stop, below the  bank and just above the marsh.  Driftwood and flat stones served as their bar-stools.

At the assembly point, I was talking with some of the other volunteers. At some of the other cleanup points, where there is more privacy I imagine, they “cleaned up” condoms and panties. (chopstick retrieval technique?)  Very risque,  and accompanied by giggles and grins in the telling.

When I contemplate the sad gathering of Nip imbibers, after dark, showing little if any lights, I wonder. Were they high school kids (very likely) getting loaded for the first time, or were they like some of the old alkies I’ve known from those minimum wage jobs I had in High School? As I looked at the different spots where the clumps of nips and beer cans were discovered, in one spot I found only the nips, in another, beer cans mixed with the small bottles of alcohol. The high school kids were likely having their party with the beer and nips. Long swigs of beer, accompanied by sips of booze. Then drive home, God help them!

But the area with only the nips, I think those were the older drinkers. The other end of the road. Too poor or too anti-social to drink in a bar. In my day the guys with nips rattling in their shirt pockets were mainly WWII vets, today are they Gulf War veterans? I hope not.

Depressing.   Sorry.

Back to the assembly point, and THE BAG MEN.

Followed by a very nice picnic, food supplied by Whole Foods. Thank You!

Terrific spot for a picnic, isn’t it?

I’m getting behind this old liberal lawyer, there’s a first time for everything.

Alan Dershowitz blasts case against George Zimmerman

Harvard law professor weighs in, Fox doesn’t let their videos be embedded so follow the above link. Please follow and watch the video, its amazing.

Alan Dershowitz: Zimmerman Arrest Affidavit “Irresponsible And Unethical”

Zimmerman’s lawyers have shut down the web site that had been accepting donations for his defense, they intend to re-open a web site at some time for the same purpose. When they do I’ll post the web address here, and this unemployed widower will be one of the first to hit it.

No Wet Feet.

Dear friends came up to visit last weekend and were curious about the places I launch from. So I took them on a tour. Didn’t bring any boats, both are recovering from foot injuries.

Nope, never noticed these signs at the Marshfield launch.
Really!

It was interesting, they saw things that I have seen many times but never saw.

The North River Valley was looking especially nice on this Early Spring day (as in, it’s a early spring with the greenery much advanced).

The blog is called ON the North River, but BY or Looking At the North River would work too.

So we visited Elm Street, the Indian Head River Launch.

Brick Klin Lane, the Pembroke Town Landing Launch. And met Don (Now, where did I put his card?).

Ah! Here it is.

And nicely geared out he is too!

Marshfield, Bridge Street Launch and Nature Preserve.

Drive by shot, no parking on bridge.
Next time boys, Dafney would like you to wear the speedo's.

God bless those crazy kids, bridge jumping in April into 48 degree water!

Driftway in Scituate, Launch, and Nature Park.

My friends became alarmed by the warnings on the sign. "Be careful", they said.

Something new added…

Town of Scituate hopes to get half its municipal electric energy from that. Good Luck.
