Doug: Remember “Walk don’t run”?

I’ll bet you’re gonna love this. SF D

Do you remember the Ventures and Babbitt the drummer who played “Walk Don’t Run” ?

Do any of you remember the USAF four star George Babbitt? Anyone who thought the military is all spit and polish and discipline can see how the USAF handles it. I never knew Babbitt but sure would have liked to meet him. Pretty interesting. Four Star General was a drummer at one time for the Ventures. This is rather cool! This is too cool.

Watch it. You will love it. If you like rock’n’roll. Some of you don’t know the Ventures. Those that do, enjoy the clip, it should bring a smile to your face. This will knock you out….

Doug: The Truth about Hydraulic Fracturing, A.K.A “Fracking”

Obama’s Science Advisor agrees with experts: Fracking has never contaminated drinking water

“The study released today by Battelle—a highly respected independent science and technology organization—identifies numerous concerns with EPA’s ongoing hydraulic fracturing study.  Battelle’s comprehensive technical review found widespread problems with EPA’s study design, implementation, and quality control processes.  The Battelle report provides many constructive recommendations that EPA can undertake to improve the transparency, quality and ultimate value of its study.  I hope and expect that EPA will work hard to address Battelle’s recommendations, and I look forward to following up with EPA on the status of this effort in the coming weeks.”

So much for the “Gas Land” bologna.

With the Fourth of July on a Wednesday this year there are two holiday weekends. On the 7th is the second fourth WE. Overcast, but that makes it perfect for games of catch.

Back and Fore on the fifth.

Took a little trip starting at Abigail Adams Park on the shore of the Back River. Lots of parking, go to the south end where the ramp to the yacht club is located.

First point of interest is the Dog Park on Stoddard Neck. Happy, friendly dogs run back and forth, frolicking and playing, here’s some now…

Hello nice doggie, nice dog, nice…    It’s amazing how fast some dogs can swim, and while barking!

The Harbor Ferry to the airport and Boston was in, I encountered them later.

Perhaps a Map would help at this point…

South to the marina, east, then north around Webb Park.   Past the Irish Coast…

Have you ever seen houses built “up to the waters edge”?

I think I’d make some noise about getting that seawall fixed!

Fore River is NOT where I head usually, not associated with nature but Americas industrial past. The Fore River Shipyard built a truly amazing number of Aircraft Carriers, Destroyers, all type of warships. Now its the resting place for the USS Salem, a cruiser.

This industrious looking spot is where the Fore and Quincy Town Rivers come together.

This ugly apparition is the permanent temporary bridge over the Fore River. Looks shaky doesn’t it?

The USS Salem.

Class trip

Hmm? Whats this? A ramp! Next to a small park located under the bridge, must check this out.

Look up for traffic. Those tugs and barges make surprisingly little noise, compared to the stink-pots.

I wish I had pictures to help tell the story of the return trip but, no co-pilot, and both my hands were very busy.

Coming back, as I started to round Webb Park, the Harbor Ferry came up behind me. Now there is plenty of room and the ferry sticks to the center of the channel because of draft. But his wake, and its a powerful wake since this is a big vessel, as it approached the beach and shallow water began to pile up, higher and higher. The waves were coming in behind me and I could tell from the different sound they made what was happening. (I’m such a old salt!)

So I found myself surfing. I couldn’t simply point the bow straight ahead, that course would drive the boat into the rocks lining the shore. If I turned too far broadside to the wave it would roll me. The least that would happen would be the loss of camera two (not waterproof), if I rolled too close to shore I could break my fool neck. So I surfed, Cowabunga!!!  As a side effect I made the best time I’ve ever made along the shore of Webb Park. Eventually the channel widened and the ferry moved ahead, and the height and power of the waves lessened.

So, who’s coming with me next time?

The Front fell off!

THE FRONT FELL OFF

On August 19th, 2007, an oil tanker off the coast of Australia split in two, dumping 20,000 tons of crude oil. Senator Collins, a member of the Australian Parliament, appeared on a TV news program to reassure the Australian Public.

This actual interview is so funny, you'd swear it was a Monty Python skit. But it's the real deal.

If you've ever seen Abbot & Costello's "Who's On First" routine this has got to run a close second.

This video is no hoax; it actually took place on Australian TV.

It proves stupidity is in the eyes of the beholder..

According to this email forward, an accompanying video shows a news interview in which Australian Senator Collins talks about a recent oil tanker mishap off the coast of Australia in which “the front fell off” the ship spilling 20,000 tons of crude oil into the ocean. The “senator’s” comments are so absurd that the interview is actually extremely funny. The message apparently intends the viewer to believe that this humour is unintentional and simply the result of yet another politician making a fool of himself in the public eye. However, in spite of the claim in the message, the video is not an “actual interview”. It is in fact a satirical mock interview that fully intends to be funny. Continue reading

No greater love then that he would give up his life for another.

Excerpt…After the Massacre

The way survivors would later tell it, it was just after lunch when Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan walked into the Fort Hood Soldier Readiness Center, a brown-brick building in the middle of the sprawling Central Texas base. No one inside the bustling processing center took much notice; the balding, dark-eyed major was dressed in the same battle-dress uniform as hundreds of other soldiers lined up for physicals and medical paperwork.

Nidal sat in a waiting area near the entrance. He bowed his head a moment and then stood and screamed “Allahu Akbar!” – the Arabic-language Muslim exhortation “God is Great.” Simultaneously, he reached into his waistband and pulled out a semi-automatic pistol rigged with laser sights. He shot over and over into the waiting area, squeezing off rounds and reloading so fast that the bap-bap-bap of bullets sounded to some people like machine-gun fire.

Some soldiers fell, and others crawled for cover. One of the injured cried out, “My baby!” and pleaded for the life of her unborn child. A 62-year-old physician’s assistant named Michael Cahill charged from a cubicle toward the shooter with a chair in his hands.

A retired Army veteran who had worked as a civilian employee at the readiness center for seven years, “Doc” Cahill was admired for his determination to get any medical support that soldiers might need. His iconoclastic streak had bought him trouble and transfers in more than 20 years in the Army National Guard. His youngest daughter Kerry cracked that she and her older brother and sister could thank their father’s tendency to speak his mind for their wandering childhood as Army brats.

Cahill, ruddy and white-haired in civilian clothes, raised the chair like a weapon. The major calmly turned and fired, hitting Cahill six times. Within 10 minutes, Cahill, the pregnant soldier, and 11 more soldiers lay dead; 32 others were wounded.

This is one of the most moving articles I’ve read in months, the fact that I share a surname, beard and age with this hero was quite jarring.

Happy Fourth of July!

I missed the chance to get a shot of rider and bike in motion, answering the call of nature before pushing off.

There are dark days coming, so let’s enjoy ourselves while we can…

Picked this photo off the internet, love it. But I’d suggest ditching the paddle and installing an electric trolling motor, then he’d have something.  Next picture is off the web also…

A model, I need a model. Any volunteers?  (Not You, Doug!)

and adding some from Theo’s site…
