Horse meat found in Ikea’s Swedish meatballs

STOCKHOLM –  Swedish furniture giant Ikea was drawn into Europe’s widening food labeling scandal Monday as authorities said they had detected horse meat in frozen meatballs labeled as beef and pork and sold in 13 countries.

The scandal has created a split between nations like Britain who see further rules as a protectionist hindrance of free trade under the bloc’s single market, and those calling for tougher regulation.

Processed food products — a business segment with traditionally low margins that often leads producers to hunt for the cheapest suppliers — often contain ingredients from multiple suppliers in different countries, who themselves at time subcontract production to others, making it hard to monitor every link in the production chain.

Standardized DNA checks with meat suppliers and more stringent labeling rules will add costs that producers will most likely hand down to consumers, making food more expensive.

The scandal began in Ireland in mid-January when the country’s announced the results of its first-ever DNA tests on beef products. It tested frozen beef burgers taken from store shelves and found that more than a third of brands at five supermarkets contained at least a trace of horse. The sample of one brand sold by British supermarket kingpin Tesco was more than a quarter horse.

Homeless man sues parents for not loving him enough

He blames his parents — for everything!

A Brooklyn man slapped his mom and dad with a $200,000 lawsuit that blames them for leaving him homeless and destitute because they allegedly raised him and his sibling in a poor household — and didn’t love him enough.

Bernard Anderson Bey, 32, claims he never got enough affection or support from parents Vickie and Bernard Manley — so now he wants them to mortgage their share of a Bedford-Stuyvesant home so their family can buy two Domino’s Pizza franchises to employ them all, according to the bizarre suit.

“Our whole family is really poor, and my father doesn’t care about the situation,” Bey said yesterday. “I feel unloved and abandoned.”

Republican State Representative in Florida Seeks End to State’s Ethanol Mandate

Matt-Gaetz-300x240

State Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fort Walton Beach) will introduce legislation this year to repeal a state law requiring Florida service stations to sell only ethanol blended gasoline. Energy experts say ethanol requirements raise transportation fuel costs, raise food prices, decrease gasoline mileage, and harm the environment in many ways.

During the 2012 legislative session Gaetz attempted to repeal the 2008 Renewable Fuel Standard Act and its ethanol mandate. However, Adam Putnam, the state’s powerful Republican Agriculture Commissioner who political analysts expect to run for governor at the end of Gov. Rick Scott’s term, opposed repealing the ethanol mandate and most Republicans in the legislature fell in line behind Putnam.

That’s why the Republicans can’t get a leg up, they have no better vision than the Democrats…Can’t see beyond the next election or campaign contribution.

China’s ‘leftover women’, unmarried at 27

Over 27? Unmarried? Female? In China, you could be labelled a “leftover woman” by the state – but some professional Chinese women these days are happy being single.

Risky business in China, not a very deep safety net.  They should visit America and meet some nice boys…    Just saying.

Finland’s ‘official’ nap advice

Irrespective of the season, many children have their evening naps outside in prams.

Many babies sleep better outdoors in the fresh air than in the bedroom. Sleeping outdoors is not dangerous for a baby. One may gradually start going outdoors when the baby is two weeks old.

Sounds good to me! I’m a Scandinavian Baby myself, love the cold.

EPA and the Asteroid, Both are likely to end civilization, neither are elected.

Bad news: The asteroid that just missed Earth is coming back. And…

NASA estimates the flyby asteroid was the largest to approach this close in more than a century.

On Earth it would weigh about 130,000 metric tons. That’s even larger than one that tore through the atmosphere in 1908. It too preferred Russia. That meteorite explosion leveled 825 square miles, or 528,000 acres of Siberian forest.NASA / JPL (Asteroid Gaspra 951-Objects in photo are larger than they appear)

However, Friday’s uneventful visit was not without effects. The pull of Earth’s gravity altered 2012 AD 14’s orbit around the Sun, shortening its annual solar rotation from 366 Earth days to 317.

Based on current information, NASA scientists calculate the orbits of each known near-earth object out for the rest of this century.

For instance, 2012 AD 14’s orbit will not bring it back to our neighborhood again until 2046, when Americans will still be paying for Barack Obama’s recent borrowing.

Now, about that other bad news. According to the same computer calculations, in 2080 the orbit of 2012 AD 14, if unaltered in these next 67 years by some super-natural force like Bruce Willis, will slam into Earth at almost 18,000 miles an hour.

That explosive encounter, NASA says, will release about 2.5 megatons of energy into the atmosphere, causing “regional devastation.”

Hopefully, that will occur over a desolate area like Siberia. Or Detroit.

Fantasy Fuels and Higher Gas Prices…Especially on the East Coast.

Rationality in Washington is scarcer than green gas

econ101

The problem began in 2007, when Congress decreed oil companies must start producing hundreds of millions of gallons of a mythical product known as cellulosic biofuel

Writing for the three-judge panel, Senior Circuit Judge Steven F. Williams granted the EPA some strategic face-saving: “Certainly EPA must provide a reasoned explanation for its actions, but rationality does not always imply a high degree of quantitative specificity.” Given the difference between 8.65 million gallons of biofuels the EPA required and zero gallons actually produced, the court could have contended that rationality does not always imply a sense of reality. Americans can draw their own verdict: Rationality is running on empty in Washington.

What a Waste! The EPA’s Biofuel Boondoggle

[Excerpt]470520

Today I will go on record and predict that actual qualifying production of cellulosic biofuels this year will be less than a quarter of the EPA’s 14 million gallon projection. In fact, I expect it to be less than one-tenth of its projection, but I do expect some cellulosic fuel will be made. It will be very expensive to produce, and every gallon will be produced at a loss. The production volumes will ultimately depend on the amount of investor and tax dollars these companies can continue to pull in.

Some will argue that this is to be expected with new technology. However, most people don’t realize that cellulosic ethanol isn’t new technology. The Germans first commercialized cellulosic ethanol from wood in 1898. Commercialization first took place in the US in 1910. The Standard Alcohol Company built a cellulosic ethanol plant in South Carolina to process waste wood from a lumber mill. Standard Alcohol later built a second plant in Louisiana. Each plant produced 5,000 to 7,000 gallons of ethanol per day from wood waste, and both were in production for several years before they were shut down due to poor economics. Since then, there have been many attempts around the world to commercialize cellulosic ethanol, and all have failed for straightforward reasons of physics and chemistry.

So we have the US government mandating a technology that has already proven to be a commercial failure. Congress attempted to mandate an industry into existence. Of course, any time the government is handing out “free money” there will be those who attempt to tell a convincing story of how they can succeed so they can get their hands on that money. And that has taken place over the past half dozen years. Lots of money has been lost by fast-talking promoters, but almost zero fuel has been produced.

Mass Exodus US Oil Refineries.

NK is green

The Closure Of The U.S. Oil Refinery Industry In The Past 2 Years:

In 2010, there were 149 operable U.S. refineries with a combined capacity of 17.6 million barrels (2,800,000 m3) per day. Something odd started happening in late 2010-early 2011. The US oil refinery industry quietly announced the closure of numerous US oil refineries. Many are completely unaware the US ships oil overseas to be processed. We do so as we do not have enough refineries to process the vast amounts here, and we are barred from building anymore refineries. All refineries perform three basic steps: separation, conversion, and treatment. Pretty simple. Continue reading

Will our universe end in a ‘big slurp’? Higgs-like particle suggests it might

He said the parameters for our universe, including the Higgs mass value as well as the mass of another subatomic particle known as the top quark, suggest that we’re just at the edge of stability, in a “metastable” state. Physicists have been contemplating such a possibility for more than 30 years. Back in 1982, physicists Michael Turner and Frank Wilczek wrote in Nature that “without warning, a bubble of true vacuum could nucleate somewhere in the universe and move outwards at the speed of light, and before we realized what swept by us our protons would decay away.”

Lykken put it slightly differently: “The universe wants to be in a different state, so eventually to realize that, a little bubble of what you might think of as an alternate universe will appear somewhere, and it will spread out and destroy us.

Twitter happiness mapA study that reports it looked at more than 80 million words on Twitter as well as annual state surveys found that Maine followed only Hawaii in general happiness. The saddest states were Louisiana and Mississippi. The study comes from researchers at  the Vermont Complex Systems Center, who posted their analysis to arXiv.org, an electronic archive for scientific papers. The researchers reported that the goal of the paper was to “investigate how geographic place correlates with and potentially influences societal levels of happiness.” The paper focused on both states and larger cities. Now this is scary.

Missouri Bill Will Make It a Felony to Propose Gun Control Legislation

Excuse me? Did I read that correctly?

A bill put forward by Missouri Republican Mike Leara will make it a felony for any politician to propose gun control legislation. The bill is a direct response to the Democratic bill last week that would require gun owners to turn over their assault weapons.

What about privately owned anti-drone weapons?   If they really are out to get you, then you are not paranoid.

Death from a swarm of tiny drones: U.S. Air Force releases terrifying video of tiny flybots that can can hover, stalk and even kill targets

article-2281403-17CCE2EE000005DC-738_634x429 article-2281403-17CD1C22000005DC-729_634x414 article-2281403-17CD2823000005DC-858_634x368

The Air Force training video shows a winged MAV following a target as he drives through the streets of a dense city.

Advanced sensors will enable ‘optic flow,’ which will allow remote pilots to fly by ‘sight’ – rather than flying by GPS, which can be disrupted by buildings or deliberately jammed by enemy forces.

The video depicts three drones following the target into a house, where they maneuver hallways and rooms undetected.

‘Small size and agile flight will allow MAVs to covertly warrant-less enter locations inaccessible by traditional means of aerial surveillance,’ the narrator says.

The video follows the drones as they fly through an open door and sneak up behind a man who is aiming a sniper (illegal assault) rifle.

‘Individual MAVs may perform direct attack missions and can be equipped with incapacitating chemicals, combustible payloads or even explosives for precision targeting capability,’ according to the video.

On screen, a small, hovering vehicle pauses before shooting the man directly in the back of the head.

Due process, what due process?  This is a urban weapon, short range and only useful against unarmored targets.

Are you thinking what I’m thinking? I hope this is a joke, please let this be a joke. Barry really is building the tools he needs to rule the USA…forever.

Remember, once technology is developed it can’t be undeveloped. And it will be used.

Six? Six times! Illegal voting by a Black Poll Worker. (Repost from 2014.)

Did Obama supporter vote 6 times in 2012? Ohio poll worker target of investigation

richardson_Melowese

The Obama/Biden lawn sign remains proudly planted in front of Melowese Richardson’s Cincinnati home, three months after the presidential election.

It seems that President Obama has an especially ardent supporter in the veteran Ohio poll worker.

Richardson told a local television station this month that she voted twice for Obama last November. She cast an absentee ballot and then voted at the polls as well.

“Yes, I voted twice,” Richardson told WCPO-TV. “I, after registering thousands of people, certainly wanted my vote to count, so I voted. I voted at the polls.”

Authorities also are investigating if she voted in the names of four other people, too, for a total of six votes in the 2012 presidential election.

“I’ll fight it for Mr. Obama and for Mr. Obama’s right to sit as president of the United States,” Richardson vowed when asked about the voter fraud investigation that is now under way.

[I’m going to include the whole article, everyone who voted legally last November should read it. Remember, this doesn’t begin to cover or explain what happened to thousands of votes cast for Romney that then disappeared. But maybe it does, Richardson is a poll worker.]

Update: March 2014

She did about a month of a five year sentence.  A (Democrat) Judge released her quietly.  I imagine that he winced when he saw the celebration the Black community held to honor a lawbreaker.

An Oregon resident with 3 massive man-made ponds on his property is sentenced to 30 days in jail after being found guilty (again) of collecting rainwater without a permit.

President Obama has set in motion forces that he can’t handle

Neil Snyder [excerpt]

This is the point: a perfect storm is brewing. I think we’re heading for a chaotic and violent period in this country the likes of which no one alive today has ever witnessed.  If I’m right, conditions will be ideal for criminals to ply their craft, and President Obama is pushing for gun control at precisely the wrong moment.

I believe that what I have described is realistic and unfortunately inevitable, and that brings me back to my back to the president.  He has set in motion forces that he can’t handle, and all of us are going to suffer the consequences so get ready for a wild ride.

Now, Here is the IOC informing the Synchronized Swimming community of the same.   IOC: We are dropping Synchronized …  SS Community: Wahhh!!! Wahhhh!!! (blubber) Wahhhh!!!!…

Mr Driscoll said: ‘I was stunned. It was just mad. Five officers turned up in unmarked police cars.

‘They flashed the search warrant in my face and said it was lucky I was in so they didn’t have to break my door down. Everyone has been laughing about it and I think it’s funny. It’s so stupid.

‘The Action Man looked a bit like me so I decided to put it as my Facebook picture.

‘I didn’t even notice the mortar in the background.

In 2010 17 states enacted a phosphate ban for dishwasher detergent. They include: Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.

Notice a common thread? Hint: Democratic control.

Another commonly encountered occurrence, one size fits all social engineering.   Doesn’t matter if you have hard water or soft water, whither your waste water goes to municipal  pipes or a septic system located on your own property or if that said property is on the shores of a public lake or two hundred miles from any body of open water or aquifer.

It does make a different if you are a citizen or affiliated with the federal or state government. Federal and State (and most City-owned facilities) are exempt.

Another common thread is the near universal dislike for the job the new non-phosphate dishwasher detergents are doing.  (Does this remind you of the other experiment in social engineering also going on with gasoline? )  My appliance repairman put me on to the changes in the formula of my current dishwasher detergent as the cause for the miserable results coming out of the washer.

Well I’m going to try a new dishwasher detergent, (online (non-local) purchasing coming to the rescue…again).
