The 100th Post on this Blog

I started this in April after losing my wife, Donie. I also enlarged the garden and set up a workshop in the basement. I really, really needed to find things to do. Has it helped? A little, not enough. I had never realized how much being able to tell Donie about what I had done or show her new photographs I had taken was so important to me. Continue reading

Government should fear the power of its citizens, citizens should not fear the power of their government

Fearmonger-in-Chief……………from Rico

Want a GREAT example of “playing politics” and “fearmongering” to understand what is so very wrong with things today?

Berry Soetoro a.k.a. Barack Obama just said THIS:
Quote. “I cannot guarantee that those checks [Social Security] go out on August 3rd if we haven’t resolved this issue.” Unquote. Continue reading

Wednesday News…about me.

Time to get ‘serious’ on illegal aliens (for me its personal)

Todays article by Howie Carr has fun with the outrageous statement made by the Mayor of the City of Boston “Mumbles” Menino. The Mayor stated that Boston will not participate in a  federal program that makes the deportation automatic of illegal aliens arrested in the commission of a crime. Menino’s statement refers to a illegal arrested for car theft and how cruel it would be to deport a man for that. “Not the Boston I would want to live in”, he states. Well for a guy that gets chauffeured around town by police detectives, no big deal, but for the hard working, tax-paying regular guy whose car isn’t there in the morning and if found is usually banged up and in need of repair its a problem.

Forty years ago, just starting out in telecom, I came down to go to work and found my 63′ VW gone. Also gone, in the vehicle, were all the tools I had painfully acquired. In the glove compartment my grandfathers pocket watch, which I was going to bring to the Jewelers Building in Boston to have repaired was gone. I never saw the contents again but the car showed up in a Cambridge Impound Lot two days later, window broken and ignition wiring ripped out. To add insult to injury I had to pay the fine for illegal parking, towing and two days storage.  That incident in my early twenties stripped me down to nothing. I was lucky to keep my job (thanks Gary Gerhart) and started over with tools lent me by friends (thanks Dave Mac).  To this day I pray I never catch a car thief in the act, I’d kill him.

I don’t think Mumbles has any life experiences like that in his memories, few life-long career politicians do.

I recommend this book.

What did you read on your summer vacation? I just finished SEAL Team Six: Memoirs of an Elite Navy SEAL Sniper. Its the kind of story that should have stamped on it, Made in America, or ONLY in America. Howard E. Wasdin’s career ended in 1995 after being severely wounded in Somalia so the events in the book predate the war on terror. Though the methods used to select and train the warrior elite of the US Armed Forces have not changed.

The Last Carbon Tax?

The result? “The latest Essential Report shows that on first preferences the Coalition leads Labor 50 per cent to 30 per cent and after preferences the Opposition leads by a massive 57 to 43. Essential’s pollster Andrew Bunn says if an election were held now it would be “getting on to the proportion of the New South Wales State election” which was a massacre for the Labor government.

Good quote:

Rep. Michael Burgess (R-Texas) tried an unusual route in trying to win Democratic support for the bill — vanity.

“Here’s the bottom line: those of us of a certain age, under a compact fluorescent bulb, we don’t look as good as we do under an incandescent bulb,” Burgess said to laughter. “Even the former chairman of my committee of Energy and Commerce suffers from what might be called spectrum fatigue under a compact fluorescent bulb.”

The Story of Dick Cheney’s Heart

Perhaps its not viable to collect these resources today, but they are in the bank for the future.

More than a month later the Boston Globe finally covers it.

Video: President Obama promises ‘massive job killing taxes’ if re-elected

From today’s presser on the debt ceiling debate. Check out how the prez frames the debate over taxes.

“So, when you hear folks saying ‘Well, the president shouldn’t want massive job killing tax increases when the economy is this weak.’ Nobody’s looking to raise taxes right now. We’re talking about potentially 2013 and the out years.” (emphasis added)

Re-elect me to get massive job killing tax hikes when I’m a lame duck and you can’t do a thing about it. That right there is a sure-fire winner of a message. If you want to morph into Walter Mondale circa 1984.

More: This clip is being circulated by Team Romney. Nice catch on their part. And this is one of many clips that should form part of any candidate’s attack on Obama from now on.

It works because so few people will stop to ask themselves, “Is this reasonable?”. And before you repeat it (or reblog it) do some fact checking.

How do you tell a liberal is lying? Their mouth is moving.

Obama’s Plan for $10 Gas

Obama will rise the price of Gasoline to $10

“Obama’s energy policies have created the worst of all possible worlds for American consumers: higher prices and continued dependency on imported oil.

Now, in the ongoing deficit reduction talks, the President is insisting on cutting $45 billion of incentives for oil and gas companies over the next decade.  The Democrats like to portray these incentives as “special breaks” for Big Oil, but in fact they are no different from expensing and depreciation allowances enjoyed by most manufacturing businesses.  In reality, Obama’s proposal has nothing to do with “special breaks” for oil companies.  Instead, it is a “special tax” aimed specifically at oil and gas.”

Quote from the Czech Republic……….

“The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting an inexperienced man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama Presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their President. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America. Blaming the Prince of the Fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their President.”

I think I’ll stick this quote to the masthead.
