Clever Dog Tricks

Yes, Dems did funnel money to ‘independent’ in Kansas Senate race

(Duh!)

Anyone who followed this year’s Senate race in Kansas — the one longtime GOP incumbent Pat Roberts appeared to be losing to Greg Orman, the businessman running as an independent — knows Orman and his supporters vigorously denied Roberts’ allegation that Orman was really a Democrat running to further the Democratic agenda.

“By word, by deed, by campaign contribution, this man is a liberal Democrat,” Roberts said of Orman during a debate in October. “A vote for Greg Orman is a vote to extend the Barack Obama/Harry Reid agenda.”

Not true, Orman answered. “The senator can say that over and over again, but it doesn’t make it so.”

What voters did not know was at that very moment, Democratic Majority Leader Harry Reid’s political action committee, the Senate Majority PAC, was preparing to pour more than a million dollars into the pro-Orman effort in Kansas. Reid was just waiting to make sure the donations came so late in the campaign that the public wouldn’t find out about them until after the election.

Roll over!  GOOD BOY!

Don’t bother trying to find this story on your home town newspaper, it’s not there.

Pearl Harbor Day: Harold Estes

Harold Estes

(snoops.com) Claim:   Letter from nonagenarian World War II veteran criticizes President Obama.

CORRECTLY ATTRIBUTED

Example:   [Collected via e-mail, November 2009]

Dear President Obama,

My name is Harold Estes, approaching 95 on December 13 of this year. People meeting me for the first time don’t believe my age because I remain wrinkle free and pretty much mentally alert.

I enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1934 and served proudly before, during and after WW II retiring as a Master Chief Bos’n Mate. Now I live in a “rest home” located on the western end of Pearl Harbor allowing me to keep alive the memories of 23 years of service to my country.

One of the benefits of my age, perhaps the only one, is to speak my mind, blunt and direct even to the head man.

So here goes.

I am amazed, angry and determined not to see my country die before I do but you seem hell bent not to grant me that wish.

I can’t figure out what country you are the president of. You fly around the world telling our friends and enemies despicable lies like:

  • “We’re no longer a Christian nation”
  • “America is arrogant” – (Your wife even announced to the world, “America is mean-spirited.” Please tell her to try preaching that nonsense to 23 generations of our war dead buried all over the globe who died for no other reason than to free a whole lot of strangers from tyranny and hopelessness.)

I’d say shame on the both of you but I don’t think you like America nor do I see an ounce of gratefulness in anything you do for the obvious gifts this country has given you. To be without shame or gratefulness is a dangerous thing for a man sitting in the White House.

After 9/11 you said, “America hasn’t lived up to her ideals.” Which ones did you mean?

1. Was it the notion of personal liberty that 11,000 farmers and shopkeepers died for to win independence from the British ?

2. Or maybe the ideal that no man should be a slave to another man that 500,000 men died for in the Civil War?

3. I hope you didn’t mean the ideal 470,000 fathers, brothers, husbands, and a lot of fellahs I knew personally died for in WWII, because we felt real strongly about not letting any nation push us around because we stand for freedom.

4. I don’t think you mean the ideal that says equality is better than discrimination. You know the one that a whole lot of white people understood when they helped to get you elected.

Take a little advice from a very old geezer, young man. Shape up and start acting like an American. If you don’t, I’ll do what I can to see you get shipped out of that fancy rental on Pennsylvania Avenue. You were elected to lead not to bow, apologize and kiss the hands of murderers and corrupt leaders who still treat their

people like slaves.

And just who do you think you are telling the American people not to jump to conclusions and condemn that Muslim major who killed 13 of his fellow soldiers and wounded dozens more. You mean you don’t want us to do what you did when that white cop used force to subdue that black college professor in Massachusetts who was putting up a fight? You don’t mind offending the police calling them stupid but you don’t want us to offend Muslim fanatics by calling them what they are, terrorists.

One more thing. I realize you never served in the military and never had to defend your country with your life but you’re the Commander-in-Chief now, son. Do your job. When your battle-hardened field General asks you for 40,000 more troops to complete the mission, give them to him. But if you’re not in this fight to win, then get out. The life of one American soldier is not worth the best political strategy you’re thinking of.

You could be our greatest president because you face the greatest challenge ever presented to any president.

You’re not going to restore American greatness by bringing back our bloated economy. That’s not our greatest threat. Losing the heart and soul of who we are as Americans is our big fight now. And I sure as hell don’t want to think my president is the enemy in this final battle.

Sincerely,

Harold B. Estes

Origins:   Many readers originally encountered the above-reproduced letter to President Obama on the web site Congress.org, where it was published in November 2009 after being submitted to that site by someone in Florida who had received it via e-mail.

The actual author of the letter was Hawaii resident Harold B. Estes, a long-serving veteran of the U.S. Navy who was pictured in the May 2005 issue of Fore ‘n Aft magazine and for whom the BMC Harold Estes Leadership Award is named.

The publisher of Fore ‘n Aft kindly responded to our inquiry and provided confirmation that Harold Estes was indeed the author of this piece:

Thank you for your note and this opportunity to personally vouch for that to which you refer. The letter is REAL and so is Harold Estes. A retired Master Chief Boatswains Mate, he dictated the letter to a secretary who printed it and Harold has signed it personally. I believe that in addition to the president, over 50 hard copies were mailed to various VIPs bearing his signature. Another personal and mutual friend showed me his copy! Thus, Harold is the author, a dear friend, a very well known Navy Leaguer and so please do mark this TRUE.

Honolulu television station KITV also interviewed Harold Estes at his Hawaii home and verified that he wrote the letter attributed to him:

A letter from a 95-year-old retired World War II sailor in Hawaii to President Barack Obama has stirred up attention on the Internet.

Retired ship’s Boatswain Harold Estes wrote the letter and someone in Florida sent it to Congress.org. The letter then bounced around different sites and people questioned whether it was real.

Estes said he was unaware of the controversy he caused on the Internet.

“I’ve never looked at anything on the Internet. I don’t follow this. I didn’t write this to get publicity,” Estes said.

Some later versions of the piece circulated via e-mail included a photograph of the author posing with Navy personnel:

For those who question Harold Estes’ status as Master Chief, a rank which was not created until after his retirement from the Navy, Fore ‘n Aft notes in a profile of Estes that:

In 2007, to recognize his many years of voluntary service as the Navy’s goodwill ambassador in Hawaii, the Commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet, Admiral Gary Roughead, promoted Harold to the honorary rank of Pacific Fleet Command Master Chief. At age 93.

Harold B. Estes passed away at the age of 96 in May 2011 and was interred at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.

Pearl Harbor Day

Since last year a friend returned a copy of a picture we gave them years ago, the original of this photo was lost in the house fire, including the negative.

My photo of the Arizona Memorial for webFrom a trip we made to Hawaii to visit Donie’s fathers grave in the Veterans Grave-site in Maui and on this trip we were finally able to get a seat on the boat out to the Arizona Memorial.
The little boy was just standing there gazing at the wall when I came up and shot this picture.   My paternal grandfather had been a Navy Man in WWI, re-enlisted in WWII and passed away soon after the end of the war from a service related illness.  I never met him.

VDH: When the President is a drag

When the Law Is a Drag

In the Ferguson disaster, the law was the greatest casualty. Civilization cannot long work if youths strong-arm shop owners and take what they want. Or walk down the middle of highways high on illicit drugs. Or attack police officers and seek to grab their weapons. Or fail to obey an officer’s command to halt. Or deliberately give false testimonies to authorities. Or riot, burn, and loot. Or, in the more abstract sense, simply ignore the legal findings of a grand jury; or, in critical legal theory fashion, seek to dismiss the authority of the law because it is not deemed useful to some preconceived theory of social justice. Do that and society crumbles.

Some people will actually not recognize the Ferguson drama from that description.  What happened in Ferguson is happening all over the USA.  The President of the United States is not a civilized man.  He is more of a shaman, a Ju-Ju priest or a tribal leader.

…no government agency will in six months prosecute the looters and burners, or charge with perjury those who brazenly lied in their depositions to authorities, or charge the companion of Michael Brown with an accessory role in strong-arm robbery, or charge the stepfather of Michael Brown for using a bullhorn to incite a crowd to riot and loot and burn.

Like the illegal who rear-ends your car on the highway, or the gypsy cabby who rolls his fare after midnight, the police don’t even bother to investigate.  What’s the point?  The DA won’t prosecute, the judge will release the Skell on personal recognizance  and subsequently he won’t show up for trial.  (I have personal knowledge of this.)

More disturbingly, we have engendered a strange culture of justifiable lawlessness: those who are deemed exploited in some ways are exempt from following the law; those without such victim status are subject even more to it. Executive authorities compensate for their impotence in not enforcing statutes for some by excessively enforcing them on others.

… I burn a single old grape stake that has been treated with a copper-based preservative, I will be facing huge fines by environmental protection agencies, whose zeal will not extend to nearby residents …with jerry-rigged wiring and stop-gap sewage or who dump wet garbage along the side of the road. In the old days the dumpers at least used to sift out incriminating documents with names on them; now they leave them in, without worry over the consequences.

Our bureaucrats thirst for the single infraction by the law-biding citizen who can pay — to compensate for their impotence amid endless crimes by the law-breaking who are deemed unable to pay. That idea of redistributive enforcement permeates the entire federal government.

First they created criminals amongst the law bidding by criminalizing what wasn’t a crime, but common practice.  Then they made what was looked on as politically correct the “unwritten law”.  Enforced at the workplace where there was no force and hence no protection of law.  Now, as Prof. Hanson writes, they only concoct laws that limit and are the coercion of the (old) law abiding.

Only the Patriots

Rising frustration with Washington and conservative electoral victories across much of the U.S. are feeding a movement in favor of something America hasn’t done in 227 years: Hold a convention to rewrite the Constitution.

Although it’s still not likely to be successful, the effort is more serious than before: Already, more than two dozen states have called for a convention. There are two ways to change or amend the founding document. The usual method is for an adjustment to win approval from two-thirds of the Congress and then be ratified by three-quarters of the states. There have been 27 amendments adopted this way.

The second procedure is separate from Congress. It requires two-thirds of the states, or 34, to call for a convention. The framers thought this was necessary because Congress wouldn’t be likely to advance any amendments that curtailed its powers. But this recourse never has been used.

Two states, California and Vermont, have called for a convention to overturn the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision that permits huge amounts of unregulated money into federal campaigns. Larry Sabato, a University of Virginia political scientist, wants a convention to adopt sweeping changes, including a single six-year presidential term and concomitant House and Senate terms, to create more of a parliamentary system. Petitions to adopt term limits for members of Congress have circulated for years.

But much of the current impetus comes from fervent fiscal conservatives. This includes calls for an amendment requiring a balanced budget and other restraints on the federal government’s spending and taxation powers.

A constitutional convention is a rallying cry for right-wing talk-radio hosts such as Rush Limbaugh and Mark Levin; the idea has been endorsed by Senators Ron Johnson of Wisconsin and Oklahoma’s Tom Coburn, both conservative Republicans. An influential backer is the American Legislative Exchange Council, known as ALEC, an organization of conservative state legislators and private sector lobbyists that advocates for corporate interests.

However, many constitutional scholars believe that limits cannot be placed on a convention; if one were convened, anything could be up for consideration. A convention “can propose what they think is appropriate,” says Michael Paulsen, a professor at the University of St. Thomas law school in Minneapolis who is an expert on the issue. “There is no good theory under which the convention can be ‘limited’ to specific topics — far less to a specific proposed `text.’”

Accordingly, say experts such as Walter Dellinger, a former U.S. solicitor general and a constitutional scholar, no limits can be imposed on calls for a convention. That’s why he believes the current petitions from states, even if they reach the two-thirds mark, are invalid.

“Thirty-four times zero is still zero,” he says.

Ken Lane over at Knuckledraggin…  wants to alert the people of the unspoken danger of such a Convention.  Unlike the original Constitutional Convention this one would be controlled and directed by the same politicians that caused the cry for a venue to redress the grievances of the people in the first place.  Thus none of our current problems would go away, only our current Constitutional protections would be removed.   I think he’s right.

Limit the delegates to only those uncouth types that have carried arms in the defense of the country, then maybe.  But I can guarantee that it wouldn’t work out that way.  John Boehner would hold the gavel and Al Sharpton would be a delegate from New York.   Get the picture?   A feeding frenzy of tear-outs and cross-outs while the God-damned media pounded out a drumbeat of “Fair, Fair, Fair!!!”.

Hold the war first, then let the victors re-write the Constitution.

Shooters and Looters………………..from Rico

Chuckie Hagel was fired because he wouldn’t ‘swallow’ this one:

Now, unlawful enemy combatants are unprivileged enemy belligerent – significant because they do not have standing under Geneva Conventions.

Eric dickHolder’s replacement was hired because she was totally OK with this:

I just read that the reason they are not arresting any LOOTERS in Ferguson is because Eric Holder’s Justice Department has reclassified them. They are not LOOTERS anymore. They are UNDOCUMENTED SHOPPERS.

The following items have NOT been stolen by the undocumented shoppers in Ferguson: Pens, pencils, resume kits, work boots, work gloves, work coveralls, father’s day cards.
