U.S. military ‘hostile’ to Christians under Obama; morale, retention devastated

Soon there may only be atheists in the foxholes.

Christians are leaving the U.S. military or are discouraged from joining in the first place because of a “hostile work environment” that doesn’t let them express their beliefs openly, religious freedom advocates say.

Michael Berry, senior counsel at the Liberty Institute, a Texas-based legal organization dedicated to defending religious liberty in America, said recent high-profile cases of military chaplains facing punishment for private counseling sessions that reflected the teachings of their religion could cause devout Americans who are qualified for military service to think twice about joining the military.

In a way the US Military is different from all other branches of the US Government.  The officer that stormed the beaches of France, trained the man that lead his troops in Vietnam and that man’s leadership and guidance inspired the General who devastated Suddam Husseins army in the Gulf Wars.  Break the chain and something special dies.

In December, a chaplain for a Ranger training battalion received an administrative letter of concern after a soldier complained that he advocated Christianity and used the Bible during a mandatory unit suicide-prevention training session. The Military Association of Atheists and Freethinkers said the chaplain “used his official position to force his personal religious beliefs on a captive military audience” in an article the group posted on its website.

And, last month, a Navy chaplain was removed from his post and may lose his career after some sailors complained about his private counseling, in which he reportedly advocated against homosexuality and sex outside of marriage.

There’s no place for this shit in the military.   “The Military Association of Atheists..” ?   Why not relocate the Pentagon to San Francisco?  Cut holes in the soldiers pants to show their cheeks and drill in makeup application?

I had resolved that if the last crystals of snow or ice weren’t gone by sunset, I was going to go out and piss on them.  They heard me.

Today, April 15th, this location was finally free of snow.  Not all of Weymouth can say so; the park under the trees, the parking lots of the malls and the schools and the anywhere that piled it up higher than I did.  In six months we start the campaign all over again.   A little birdie is telling me that I should be heading South by then, deep South.  A little birdie named Doug.

Untreatable tick-borne virus found in Conn., expert says

An untreatable, and sometimes fatal tick-borne disease is turning up in parts of southern Connecticut, according to one expert.

Dr. Theodore Andreadis, head of The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station, told WCBS 880 that the Powassan virus has symptoms similar to those of Lyme disease, including headache, nausea and fever.

Once contracted, there is no treatment for the virus, and the disease can often be fatal, Andreadis said. While there have been no reported human cases in the areas, Andreadis said that people who venture into wooded areas may encounter deer carrying ticks.

“These ticks will transmit this virus when they feed within a matter of hours, whereas with Lyme disease, for example, ticks generally have to feed up to two days before they’re capable of transmitting it,” Andreadis told WCBS 880.

The virus can often be symptomless before often infecting the nervous system and causing encephalitis and meningitis. Survivors can develop neurological symptoms such as muscle wasting and memory problems, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

God hates Democrats.  That’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it!   Can we start shooting the F*&king deer now?

Water Hazard

Marijuana Plants Soak Up Billions of Gallons of Water in California

Unfortunately, a reliable count hasn’t been done in years, but back in 2006, there were approximately 17.5 million outdoor marijuana plants in the state. (That number has almost certainly skyrocketed since, given that the DEA has eased its enforcement, but we’ll be conservative and use the old number.) Meanwhile, one outdoor marijuana plant requires approximately six gallons of water per day during its roughly 150-day growing season. That means that, over California’s four-year drought, outdoor marijuana plants — based on the six-gallon a day estimate, and the 2006 figure — have used roughly 63 billion gallons of California water. (Indoor growing is also rough on the environment; roughly 9 percent of household electricity use in the state is used for marijuana cultivation, reports Evan Mills of the Lawrence Berkeley National Library.)

The writer goes on to say that California is already producing more marijuana than Mexico and with a much higher potency. MarijuanaCould get interesting if the migrant lettuce pickers go to the wrong field and the results get shipped East and put in the produce aisle.

This is a story that twenty years ago I would never have believed.  Take a moment to think about the millions of dollars the US Government is giving the Mexican Government to eradicate marijuana fields in Mexico.   Someone is crazy and I don’t think it’s me.

Stairs

As I investigate the options for fixing the problem with my current staircase to the second floor I came upon this Gallery of Unique Stairs.   All I can say is …Amazing!

Some you’ll love, some you’ll detest and others you can only hope nobody has ever slipped and hurt themselves! Below is a gallery of unique and creative staircase designs. Not necessarily the most beautiful or functional, just a collection of interesting concepts that push the boundaries of staircase design into bold and often handrail-less territories. Enjoy!

The Forest of War

A forest outside Leningrad.

In the forests surrounding the Neva Bridgehead area in Russia the trees carry a deep scar of history. All through the forests are the remnants of war.

Flash! First Robin of Spring.

Pretty late for this area.  But for a ground forager; frozen ground, several feet of snow still covering everything and what should be open water is ice.  Took a later flight North, I guess.

First Robin sighting IMG_0610Didn’t come near the house either, the several feet of snow that came off the roof may have something to do with that.

Home skitish IMG_0611Home lost that bush IMG_0609I guess I lost that bush.  It had made it through many storms over ten winters but now I need to get another tree for the blue Christmas lights.

These photos are from 2009.
