Google Turns 14 Today, Was Initially Called ‘BackRub’

Apparently today is Google’s 14th birthday. Though the company’s official history makes no mention of September 27, the birthday cake Google Doodle – complete with 14 candles and hovertext that reads “Google’s 14th Birthday” – seals it.

Looking for this?

Lots of interest in the Obama American Flag, this older post has been getting a lot of hits the last week (but no comments?)

I think people have been looking for this…

I have a farmer’s style porch, three sided wrap-around, which gives me plenty of places to fly flags from.

I have our American Flag, the Thirteen stars and thirteen stripes of the Revolutionary War Flag. There’s the Gadsden Flag, the Naval Jack of 1775, the Bonnie Blue Flag, and the Battle of Gonzales battle flag.  But I have no room for HIS flag, which I consider offensive if not treasonous.

I don’t feel like registering just to comment on Revolution…

I don’t watch a lot of TV, especially broadcast TV.  I’ve now seen two episodes of NBC’s new “SciFi” show, Revolution. Before I say what my opinion of the program is, let me say I did some cruising around the web to sample the zeitgeist floating around.

Twitter was the only bastion of unabashed support, well Twits will do that.

Most sites the comments were all asking, “Hey! Did someone forget about the industrial revolution? And like, STEAM POWER?”.  Yup, with all these steel rails crisscrossing the country, nobody hooked up surviving steam engines and began making new steam locomotives? Nah, lets walk, and have a few guys ride horses. But the most fun is harness humans to long drag lines and whip them up! (But only with a freshly oiled whip so it leaves nice clean strokes) Err, never mind.

OK, my opinion is that this is the stupidest new TV show I’ve ever wasted time on. Unfortunately, Mom seems to like it. Mostly she likes the character of Giancarlo Esposito as Captain Tom Neville. I think she thinks he’s hot.

So we will be taping it on the DVR for the foreseeable future.  With all the young actors and actresses with perfect teeth, and hair, and plunked eyebrows, and clean clothes, fifteen years after the power goes out and manufacturing stops but everyone is still wearing polyester…     No, forget it, not important.

But one thing that irritates me, on all the TV sites that had commenting, they all want you to register in order to state your opinion. With a new user name and a password to boot. Well, here my friends you don’t have to any of that. As the man said, “This is Liberty Hall, feel free to spit on the mat and call the cat a bastard”.

Just don’t Twit,   Please.

Wheels coming off…?

Sorry, no new photos of mine…

But more dirt on little O.

Fox News Reports Barry Soetoro’s Manufactured Past; Michelle Obama’s DNC…

Are the wheels coming off of Obie’s control of the media?

This from CBS…!!!

Guy Benson rightly calls this devastating, at Townhall,Whoa: Devastating CBS News Benghazi Report Slams Obama Administration.”

The Wall Street Journal…

The U.S. didn’t seriously consider sending in the military during the attack. It summoned rapid-response teams of Marines only after the U.S. ambassador was dead. State Department officials said they doubted the Pentagon could have mobilized a rescue force quickly enough to make a difference during the fighting. The Pentagon waited for guidance from State, which is responsible for diplomatic security, a senior military official said.

Adding a new dimension to the chain of events, the siege also engulfed what officials now describe as a secret safe house used by American officials and security personnel involved in sensitive government programs after last year’s Libyan revolution.

Even when that building, also known as the “annex,” came under attack, U.S. officials were reluctant to divulge its existence, and the secrecy complicated the Libyan response and the eventual American evacuation, according to Libyan security officials.

O.K. The STATE DEPARTMENT didn’t think that the U.S. Military could act quickly enough to make a difference. (That the same U.S. Military I’m thinking of?)

They didn’t call in the Marines, In the five or six hours that the Ambassador was missing? (Remember, they didn’t know that Ambassador Stevens had been killed until his body showed up at the hospital many hours later). They didn’t know his was dead? Right?

Right??? What the Hell is going on here?

At least Someone is doing Something!

Obama in his own words: Dreams from My Real Father.

What kills me is that we could have done the same thing and prevented the enormous damage to America in 2008, its all been there waiting.

By the end of the summer of 2008, first, we knew that the MSM wasn’t going to do its job and expose Obama. Second, the way the Democrats manipulated the Freddie/Frannie Mae to crash the  housing market and the economy, plus the never explained (or investigated) attack on the Money Markets in the fall of ’08 just before the election that caused (that idiot) McCain to suspend his campaign at a time when he was ahead.

Now here we are again, less than six weeks to go and what has Romney done since the Convention?  Where are the hard hitting, truthful Ads that should be shredding this failed President?  Romney, get off your ASS!

The Wrong Boat Adventure.

Well, that’s embarrassing.

I think I’ve mentioned I have more than one kayak, the yellow one (Pungo 120) is a single seater with some internal storage and is considered a general purpose kayak. It doesn’t do well on the ocean or anywhere where there is likely to be waves. But for the North River and Hingham Bay it’s fine.

Light and easy to get into, its my first choice, most days.

Another boat I own is the Tarpon 100, this is a sit-on-top model with no cockpit and is a self bailer. It is heavier, shorter, and slower than the Pungo. Also due to my butt being higher up and resulting in a higher center of gravity it is more unstable.

So, when I need the shorter aspect (-2ft) as when I’m going far up into the marsh, with narrow channels or expect choppy waters with waves likely to come over the bow or sides and dump water into my little yellow friend I take the Tarpon.  If the waves swamp the bow, I get wet and the boat sheds the water automatically.

So on Friday, a very nice day, I loaded the Pungo and headed to the Pembroke launch. But getting there I realized I had miscalculated the tide, it was very low and falling. By the time I expected to be back I would have many feet of mud to cross to get the boat out of the water.  The river tides in Pembroke are expected to be about three hours different from the published highs at the mouth, but sometimes the wind can change that and the tide does not rise to the same height every day, it can vary by many feet. First US Ambassador since Carter Administration killed, what is the reaction of the MSM?

Birth of a new mime, it’s Romney’s fault.

Caught on Tape! Open Mic Catches MSM Coordinating Questions About Romney’s MidEast Reaction

As a columnist at the National Review wrote:

I’ve long been critical of how few press conferences Romney has held, both in the primary and in the general election. Sure, the media can be biased. But 1) I think it’s good for a presidential candidates to be available to the press, to be subject to tough questions, and to be asked about a variety of matters; and 2) I think that a Republican candidate should prove he can deftly handle biased questions — it’s not fair, but it’s the reality of what he will face as president day after day.

But today’s press conference was really an example of how the media sometimes just doesn’t deserve that access.

Or, if every time you stick your head up and out of your foxhole, someone takes a shot at you, then either you stop sticking your head up, or you get shot.

And don’t even think of shooting back…

REPORTS: No Live Ammo for Marines

Marine blogs say U.S. embassy did not authorize service members to carry ammo

Decision made by Obama appointee.

Benghazi was a consulate, not an embassy. Whole different level of protection. Second, the lack of real information is staggering. Were there two US Marines killed? Were they the Ambassador’s traveling detail or were they sent after the trouble started and he was in Benghazi with only locally hired guards or State Dept. security? Before we dive deep into analysis don’t we need to know (in fact) what happened?
This is why I always discount anything written or said in the media for at least 72 hours when these things happen.

When the truth finally gets sorted out, are the photos being published on the front pages today going to be labeled; a. Attempt to rescue American Ambassador… or b. Dead American Ambassador dragged through the streets in victory by Islamists ?

Proof of the old adage, a broken clock is right twice a day.

GM’s vaunted Volt is on the road to nowhere fast

By Editorial Board, Published: September 12

AS A CANDIDATE for president in 2008, Barack Obama set a goal of getting 1 million all-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles on the road by 2015. In February 2011, the Obama administration’s Energy Department issued an analysis purporting to show that, with the help of subsidies and tax credits, “the goal is achievable.” This was a paltry claim in the first place, since 1 million cars amount to less than 1 percent of the total U.S. fleet. Yet it is increasingly clear that, despite the commitment of many millions of taxpayer dollars, the United States will not hit Mr. Obama’s target by 2015. A recent CBS News analysis suggested that we’ll be lucky to get a third of the way there.

The Energy Department study assumed that General Motors would produce 120,000 plug-in hybrid Volts in 2012. GM never came close to that and recently suspended Volt production at its Hamtramck, Mich., plant, scene of a presidential photo-op. So far, GM has sold a little more than 21,000 Volts, even with the help of a $7,500 tax credit, recent dealer discounting and U.S. government purchases. When you factor in the $1.2 billion cost of developing the Volt, GM loses tens of thousands of dollars on each model.

Some such losses are normal in the early phases of a product’s life cycle. Perhaps the knowledge and technological advances GM has reaped from developing the Volt will help the company over the long term. But this is cold comfort for the taxpayers who still own more than a quarter of the firm.

The Energy Department predicted that Nissan, recipient of a $1.5 billion government-guaranteed loan, would build 25,000 of its all-electric Leaf this year; that car has sold only 14,000 units in the United States.

As these companies flail, they are taking the much-ballyhooed U.S. advanced-battery industry down with them. A Chinese company had to buy out distressed A123, to which the Energy Department has committed $263 million in production aid and research money. Ener1, which ran through $55 million of a $118 million federal grant before going bankrupt, sold out to a Russian tycoon.

No matter how you slice it, the American taxpayer has gotten precious little for the administration’s investment in battery-powered vehicles, in terms of permanent jobs or lower carbon dioxide emissions. There is no market, or not much of one, for vehicles that are less convenient and cost thousands of dollars more than similar-sized gas-powered alternatives — but do not save enough fuel to compensate. The basic theory of the Obama push for electric vehicles — if you build them, customers will come — was a myth. And an expensive one, at that.
