The rifle is the weapon of democracy

... Not for nothing was the revolver called an “equalizer.” Egalite implies liberte. And always will. Let us hope our weapons are never needed — but do not forget what the common people of this nation knew when they demanded the Bill of Rights: An armed citizenry is the first defense, the best defense, and the final defense against tyranny.

The Senate delivered a devastating blow to President Obama’s agenda Wednesday by defeating a bipartisan proposal that would have expanded background checks on gun sales.

It failed by a vote of 54-46, short of the necessary 60. A handful of Democrats voted against it and only four Republicans supported the measure backed by the White House.

The vote effectively halted gun control in the upper chamber.

Democratic Sens. Mark Pryor (Ark.), Max Baucus (Mont.), Heidi Heitkamp (N.D.), Mark Begich (Alaska) and Senate

Majority Leader Harry Reid (Nev.) voted no. Reid strongly supports the bill, and his vote was a procedural one that allows him to bring the measure up again in the future.

Democracy for America, a liberal group, called the Democratic defectors “spineless.”

GOP Sens. John McCain (Ariz.), Susan Collins (Maine), Pat Toomey (Pa.) and Mark Kirk (Ill.) voted yes.

I am now completely ashamed of my vote for John McCain in the 2008 Presidential Election. This man POS needs to be drummed out of the Republican Party, he is beneath a RHINO.  Someday do you think it would be possible to nominate a person for President that: A. Could win and actually wants to win? B. Someone we won’t be ashamed of a few years down the line.

We are Boston

I guess I was wrong, previously I thought the timing of the Boston Marathon bomb was timed too late and if the goal of the attack was to disrupt the running of the race that would be true.

But if the purpose was simply to kill or injure as many people as possible, then the bomb was timed right.

Did the Boston bomber meticulously time his attacks to cause maximum carnage? Analysis shows explosions coincided with when the largest crowds arrived at finish

Timed: The bombs detonated 4 hours and 10 minutes after the start of the final wave of the marathon, at a time when thousands of runners were approaching the finish line

I didn’t watch or attend the race this year, but in other years the standard practice for the end of the race is to clear the finish line for Police, media and the handful of elite runners. The early runners are generally not clumped together, there might be two or three within feet of each other and there will be gaps of many minutes before more runners approach.

If the purpose of the bomber/bombers was to disrupt the race, a bomb that exploded before the first runner closed the finish line would have stopped the race in its tracks. People would likely have been killed or maimed in that scenario but likely fewer and more likely the victims would have been police, photographers or race officials.

In past years, I recall that the area around the finish line is cleared and the public is farther back. (better sight lines for the cameras and less chance of someone interfering with a runner)and  then (after everyone who is going to medal, win a prize or a ribbon has finished) the public is allowed to get in closer.  Obviously it was the public they were after. The public includes the runners at the top of the Bell Curve in the above chart, regular people, normal citizens.

When we find out who was responsible, by then, we will know more about how they did it, who aided them, what cause they did it for. But it seems clear that they targeted the public during this local Rite of Spring, this open and internationally attended event. I think they deliberately intended to kill and maim as many of the public in the way they did to prove some kind of point, perhaps that our government couldn’t protect them.

But in a free society, we are the government. We select them. We can remove them (except we haven’t done that often enough lately).

Whatever the goal, the warped reason for the bombing, this was against all of us. And we will remember.

Boston Marathon 2013

A friend from Georgia called me this afternoon to ask if I was OK?

“Fine”, I said. “Why?”

That’s how I found out about the Boston Marathon bombing.  Oddly enough, about 3pm I was looking out the bathroom window and saw the flashing blue lights and heard the pulsing sirens of many emergency vehicles heading north towards Boston. Accident at the Rte3/Rte128 juncture I thought.

I turned on the TV and was immediately looking at video of frightened people running down Bolyston St., the first of the endless replays of the smoke raising from the detonation point. Two years ago when wife died suddenly I remember the complete shock and grief so intense I felt light-headed as if all the blood and senses in my body had suddenly gone somewhere else. I realized that right at that moment hundreds of people in my home state were feeling just that.

A few years ago, when I was employed, I would have been one of those people racing into Boston.  As a senior engineer and Call Center specialist, there would have been trunks to re-route, voice announcements to re-record and (unfortunately) idiotic conference calls to sit through. They just announced that Cell Phone service in the City of Boston is being shut down (someone is thinking with something other than their mouth), more re-routing, additional re-programming.

Nothing I can do now, no one that wants me now. The rest of the day and this evening will be a constant loop of the same images, the same (re-hashed) comments, wall to wall talking heads. I invoke my 72 hour rule. Nothing we get served up for the next 72 hours will hold up over time. The truth will take months.

Now the big question is; Foreign or Domestic? From the botched timing (three hours earlier 2x to 3x the causalities) I’d guess domestic.  We have been training the foreign terrorists in the school of hard knocks for the last 12 years, all the bad bombers are dead or in Guantanamo.

Of course, it goes without saying. Barack Obama will shamelessly use this for his own purposes, “Never let a crisis go to waste”.

NAS report on Bowdoin College; Political Correctness run amok.

The tale of a teed-off philanthropist and the head of Bowdoin College, where identity politics runs wild.

I was reading an article this week in the WSJ about Bowdoin College in Maine, famous for being the place where Joshua Chamberlain laid down the book and took up the sword during the Civil War and to which he returned to serve as President of the College. Today the college is quite different.
National Association of Scholars report on political correctness at Bowdoin College was recently released and it makes very interesting reading, in a messy train wreck kind of way. The part that caught my attention was that a student with a History Major, isn’t required to take American History. He can (however) take a course entitled “Queer Gardens”. The main story is behind WSJ’s paywall, but this is the link;
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887324100904578404502145771288.html

The duty and vocation of our countries educational institutions once was to prepare our children to be good citizens of the USA, today places like Bowdoin are more interested in turning them into “World Citizens”. Just like Barry.

Home invasion suspects killed in gunfight with NC homeowner

Two men suspected of attempting to invade a home in North Carolina Friday died after a gunfight with the homeowner.

Fayetteville Police tell WTVD both robbery suspects fled the home after the exchange of gunfire. One of the suspects, 25-year-old Dominik Council, was found dead on the side of the road nearly two hours after the incident.

The other suspect, 20-year-old Xavier White, was found wounded and transported to an area hospital, where he later died, according to the station.

Police said the homeowner, who was not identified, was injured during the gunfight. Details on the individual’s condition were not immediately available.

Police on Saturday identified 24-year-old Lamyer Campbell and 24-year-old Derek Hair as suspects in the attempted home invasion.

Pity every Home Invasion story doesn’t end like this. Pity every Home Invasion story with two dead criminals doesn’t get the same press as any (School, Mall, Theater, Street…) shooting where there is an equivalent body count at the hands of a mentally ill gunman. I don’t wish for anyone to die violently but there is a difference between armed criminals who have chosen the path to their own death and innocent and unarmed citizens who did not.

And that’s what I despise about the liberal press and the Democrats in Congress. They act like there is no difference.

Benjamin Franklin on Choosing a Mistress

benn

Benjamin Franklin on Choosing a Mistress

But if you will not take this Counsel, and persist in thinking a Commerce with the Sex inevitable, then I repeat my former Advice, that in all your Amours you should prefer old Women to young ones. You call this a Paradox, and demand my Reasons. They are these:

1. Because as they have more Knowledge of the World and their Minds are better stor’d with Observations, their Conversation is more improving and more lastingly agreable.

2. Because when Women cease to be handsome, they study to be good. To maintain their Influence over Men, they supply the Diminution of Beauty by an Augmentation of Utility. They learn to do a 1000 Services small and great, and are the most tender and useful of all Friends when you are sick. Thus they continue amiable. And hence there is hardly such a thing to be found as an old Woman who is not a good Woman.

3. Because there is no hazard of Children, which irregularly produc’d may be attended with much Inconvenience.

4. Because thro’ more Experience, they are more prudent and discreet in conducting an Intrigue to prevent Suspicion. The Commerce with them is therefore safer with regard to your Reputation. And with regard to theirs, if the Affair should happen to be known, considerate People might be rather inclin’d to excuse an old Woman who would kindly take care of a young Man, form his Manners by her good Counsels, and prevent his ruining his Health and Fortune among mercenary Prostitutes.

5. Because in every Animal that walks upright, the Deficiency of the Fluids that fill the Muscles appears first in the highest Part: The Face first grows lank and wrinkled; then the Neck; then the Breast and Arms; the lower Parts continuing to the last as plump as ever: So that covering all above with a Basket, and regarding only what is below the Girdle, it is impossible of two Women to know an old from a young one. And as in the dark all Cats are grey, the Pleasure of corporal Enjoyment with an old Woman is at least equal, and frequently superior, every Knack being by Practice capable of Improvement.

6. Because the Sin is less. The debauching a Virgin may be her Ruin, and make her for Life unhappy.

7. Because the Compunction is less. The having made a young Girl miserable may give you frequent bitter Reflections; none of which can attend the making an old Woman happy.

8.[thly and Lastly] They are so grateful!!

Short stroke: I have no aversion to merging with virgins, but I’d much rather pet with a well seasoned vet! Continue reading

April 15th, 2013 Patriots Day in Massachusetts

Definition of Badass

Tough, determined Son-of-a-Bitch! He’d be ashamed of us.

theo6

The Patriots Day “Holiday”, for those in some states and countries who are not familiar with the observance (as of this year) the 237th anniversary of the Battles of Concord and Lexington and the beginning of the American Revolution. The actual date of these events is April 19th, 1776.  Making this another important historical date that has fallen prey to The Monday Holiday Law (I have no idea or interest what the real title of this turkey of a idea is.) So this is the earliest date that Patriots Day falls on, and April 21st is the latest. (…One nation, at the shopping centers, with early opening, with free stuff for all.)

Since it either falls on Tax Day, or in the neighborhood, a number of protest groups are usually active.  (The Marathon, did I forget to mention the Boston Marathon?) One in particular, The conservative Tea Party anti-tax/anti-big government group is the only one I’m going to talk about now.  In 2009 the first Tea Party protest on the Boston Common occurred in the middle of the week, on a clear and cool day. In front of the Massachusetts State House several thousand citizens showed up who were alarmed at the direction the new administration was taking the country. Frightening to realize that was only four years and six or seven trillion dollars ago.  I had broken my leg (first broken bone in my life) five weeks earlier, but was back at work at the Bank of America building in the financial district. From there to Beacon Hill and the State House rally was all (ALL!) uphill. On crutches. With a backpack full of camera equipment.

Take a look at these pictures of the people interested in the Tea Party pitch and values, look at the words on their signs and look at how clean they leave the Common.Leaving it cleanIMG_0036 Compare to Occupy IMG_0042 Hey Acorn IMG_0047

No comparison to the Occupy scumbags a couple of years later. Also no comparison to the wealth of TV and newspaper coverage they received, heavily edited to shield the sheeple from the truth and the filth, and the obscene words and behavior.

Yup, old Samuel would be ashamed of us and what we’ve done with his blood and sacrifice.Composite image Minuteman
