2 dead, 2 injured in shooting at Nevada middle school

A staff member at a middle school in Nevada was shot and killed while trying to protect children after a student arrived on campus Monday and started opening fire, police say.

Police said between 150 and 200 officers responded to the shooting.

No armed guards, the brave staff member who tried to intervene was unarmed and killed.   Now lets say that of the couple of hundred officers that will descend on the school, (after the fact), and will spend the rest of their shift on site will equal (200 police staying 5.4 hrs) the hours necessary to cover the school with an ARMED officer for the entire school year (approx. 180 days and 6 hours active class time).   Or course that is assuming that they are actually interested in doing anything as crazy as putting their (lone) body between a armed maniac and helpless kids.  It is safer to arrive after the fact in company of a couple hundred armed friends.

Or they could follow this example…

Arkansas private school: ‘Staff is armed and trained’

…or this.

Arkansas school to arm teachers with concealed weapons

Clarksville district trains 20 teachers and staffers as gun-packing security guards. ‘Nighthawk’ training aims to prevent Sandy Hook-style shootings.

The birds are singing…

Wind farm being torn down for scrapwindfarm_2648142b

A wind farm that has been in the Yorkshire Dales for two decades is being torn down, and is believed to be the first to be scrapped in the UK.

Terrific! I’ve seen a report recently that the energy produced by every (still) functioning wind turbine in the USA could be replaced by one Coal fired plant. The hint is they measure and describe Wind power in Kilowatts, Nuclear and Coal plants in Gigawatts. (Hint to liberal arts grads, Giga is bigger then Kila)

Man, have I been all over this…

Also, this from England.

Wrecked by gales again as windfarms get £300,000 to switch off…in high winds

And.

Do Wind Turbine Blades Ever Come Off? – UPDATED

Well, just a few weeks earlier, in mid May, a Siemens model B53 wind turbine blade came off at the Ocotillo wind turbine farm east of San Diego. The blade was 173 feet long and it didn’t happen during a storm, it just came off during the night. This is a new installation, just 6 months from brand new, not an old worn out turbine. Winds at the time were between 9 and 19 mph with gusts of 29 mph, something you would get on a regular basis wherever wind turbines are installed and certainly something we would expect to see here in North East.

Repeat, the blade was 173 long…!!!

Then, just one month earlier, on April 5th, the same model B53 blade came off a turbine at MidAmerican Energy’s Eclipse wind farm in Iowa.

The tottering photographer

tot·ter

ˈtätər/
verb
gerund or present participle: tottering
1.
move in a feeble or unsteady way.
“a hunched figure tottering down the path”

That’s me. The last couple of days I’ve pushed myself to get out with a camera and get photos of this fine fall foliage.  And I am not recovered yet, three months enforced sitting, plus remaining leg pain (think I’m going to need another shot…Watson, The needle!)

But after many months with nothing to post but the hi-jinks of the “little rascals” (known commonly as Barry and the Pirates), finally some pictures.

Greenpeace Arctic Activists Update

Complaints that the cell is too cold

The UK leftist Independent here writes that some of the 30 arrested Greenpeace activists are complaining of harsh conditions and that their cells are too cold. The Independent quotes the father of a detained activist:

‘There’s no regular access to such simple things as clean water, regular meals and a warm enough air temperature,’ Mr Golubok said.”

What do the activist expect from a Russian prison? Five-star resort accommodations, massages and a sauna?

Captain says he needs to go home because of heart problems

Meanwhile the English language Ria Novosti reports that the captain of the Arctic Sunrise ship Peter Wilcox now regrets going to the Arctic to protest:

RIA Novosti’s legal reporting agency RAPSI quoted Willcox as saying he had never faced such severe charges in 40 years of activism, and that he would have stayed in New York if he could choose to go back. […] Denial of Willcox’s appeal came despite his lawyer expressing concern over his health complications stemming from a heart condition.”

Oh, now suddenly he has heart problems. Strange how just a month ago his heart had been in good enough shape to allow him to venture off into the harsh Arctic conditions for a little protest and boat ramming.

James Delingpole, the Telegraph

The story so far: with the release of its Fifth Assessment Report, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has proved beyond reasonable doubt that it cannot be taken seriously.

Here are a few reasons why: IPCC lead author Dr Richard Lindzen has accused it of having “sunk to a level of hilarious incoherence.” Nigel Lawson has called it “not science but mumbo jumbo”. The Global Warming Policy Foundation’s Dr David Whitehouse has described the IPCC’s panel as “evasive and inaccurate” in the way it tried dodge the key issue of the 15-year (at least) pause in global warming; Donna Laframboise notes that is either riddled with errors or horribly politically manipulated – or both; Paul Matthews has found a very silly graph; Steve McIntyre has exposed how the IPCC appears deliberately to have tried to obfuscate the unhelpful discrepancy between its models and the real world data; and at Bishop Hill the excellent Katabasis has unearthed another gem: that, in jarring contrast to the alarmist message being put out at IPCC press conferences and in the Summary For Policymakers, the body of the report tells a different story that almost all the scary scenarios we’ve been warned about this last two decades (from permafrost melt to ice sheet collapse) are now been graded by scientists somewhere between “low confidence” to “exceptionally unlikely;” and this latest from the Mighty Booker.

Miserable capitulation.

Advancing. Ever Advancing.  Erick Erickson

Much cynicism has been expressed over the past month about the effort, led by Ted Cruz and Mike Lee, to fight Obamacare. It was about money or defeating Republicans or something other than what it was about — undermining Obamacare with a united front.

It was always about undermining Obamacare, despite the claims of others. But, those of us who were in this fight against Obamacare, have been quite open that we knew there were side benefits. This fight would expose conservative activists to the frauds they have funded.

Men like Mitch McConnell, John Cornyn, Eric Cantor, Kevin McCarthy, and others have preached a great sermon against Obamacare, but now conservatives who supported them see that these men have refused to actually practice what they’ve been preaching. They’ve refused to stand and fight with the rest of us.

Read it. That’s his opinion and it has merit. I felt that if you are not going to carry it though, don’t start. But if they hadn’t had this fight over funding Obamacare then we would have never had the moving scenes of our Vets and other Patriots bringing down the hurt on Washington DC.  Still a miserable capitulation.

Here is the list of Republican members of Congress that folded.

Why pirates bury their gold.

Bail Ins and Taking Private Wealth

The new “twist” is that the entity – which could be a major bank, or it could be the public retirement system for an entire country – is not bailed out through using outside funds from the general public, even though the protection of the general public is the reason for the intervention. Instead, funds are taken from the inside, on an involuntary basis, from selected classes of private sector investors who are judged as having the ability to pay, and the costs of maintaining the viability of this entity for the “greater good” are thereby concentrated in a small part of the private sector.

Has already happened in Poland and Argentina, and they are talking about it in Canada. If you don’t think it can happen here do this, open your 401K statement and look at a picture of Obama, look at the 401K and look at a picture of Pelosi, look at the 401K and Harry Reid. Look at your …Hey it’s gone!

Fiscal Cliff Survival Pack from the White House
I got mine yesterday!!!
Just wanted to let you know – yesterday I received my Fiscal Cliff Survival Pack from the White House.
It contained a parachute, an ‘Obama Hope & Change’ bumper sticker, a ‘Bush’s Fault’ yard sign, a ‘Blame Boehner’ poster, a ‘Tax the Rich’ banner, an application for unemployment, an application for food
stamps, a prayer rug, a letter of assignation of debt to my grandchildren and if that was not enough, there was a coupon for a machine that blows smoke up my ass.
Everything was made in “China” and all directions were in Spanish.
Keep an eye out.
Yours should arrive soon.

I think this is a metaphor.

How to fight a bear and win

Gilles Cyr was out for a walk through his woodlot when, suddenly, a large black object ran out of the woods and attacked him.

So, in order to prevent the bear from killing him, Cyr grabbed its tongue in a desperate bid for survival.

A spokesperson for the Bear Community was speechless…

Is this a metaphor of the fight for survival of the GOP and Tea Party? To fight back against the assault by the Progressives, Illegals and Democratic Party by first disabling their mouthpiece, the (Lame)Stream Media!

Nah!
