Entitlement reaches new heights

‘Why did my uncle die of Ebola while every other patient treated in America has survived?’ Now relatives say Dallas virus victim Eric Thomas Duncan received ‘unfair’ treatment

  • Thomas Eric Duncan died at 7:51am on Wednesday after receiving no potentially lifesaving blood transfusion or ZMapp
  • He was sent home when he first arrived at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital with symptoms of the disease
  • Five other Ebola patients treated in the US are either cured or in the process of being treated at specially designed hospital wards
  • Doctors began giving Duncan an experimental antiviral drug on Monday, but it was too late
  • Dr Kent Brantley and Nancy Writebol received the ZMapp ‘miracle drug,’ though officials say it has since run out
  • Dr Rick Sacra and NBC cameraman Ashoka Mukpo have received transfusions of Dr Brantley’s blood

I mean it’s not totally surprising.  In retrospect we should have expected it.  But, Holy Mother of God!  The gall of that family!

‘No one has died of Ebola in the U.S. before. This is the first time,’ Duncan’s furious nephew Joe Weeks told ABC.

Weeks and others in Duncan’s family are calling his treatment ‘unfair,’ after seeing other patients pulled from the brink of death in government-funded evacuation planes and using life-saving blood transfusions and cutting edge drugs.

This Liberian lied to get out of Liberia.  He lied coming into the USA.  The stupid fool lied to the intake nurse in Dallas, omitting all details of his close, personal contact with the blood and vomit of a Ebola victim in Liberia.  According to the stories I’ve read he lied or omitted to tell his own family everything also putting them at risk.  Is that accurate? I don’t know.  But since Duncan’s family has decided to make this personal.  I suggest we send the bill for all the expenses that have been rung up by “Uncle” Thomas.  ALL the expenses.

  • The ambulance ride and the decontamination afterward.
  • The full costs of the ICU plus the costs of disposing of the hazardous medical waste afterward.
  • The Federal and States investigation and search for all the hundreds of innocent people potentially exposed by this persons perfidy and callousness.
  • Housing his ungrateful family in luxury after removing them from their apartment.
  • Decontamination of the families apartment and the buildings common spaces.
  • Any costs for treatment of any cases of Ebola occurring in Dallas or anywhere in the US due to Duncan bringing Ebola into the USA.
  • Cremation and shipping this asses ashes bring to Liberia.

Did I miss anything?

Item: ZMapp was a treatment in very short supply, actually it’s gone.  Plus we are back to the issue of “Informed Consent”.  That the individuals that did receive it were all educated and medically trained and so were able to understand the risks of an untested and unapproved new drug and give their consent.  Duncan did not qualify for “Informed Consent”.

Item: Blood from a recovered Ebola survivor. Just a guess, but I think everybody who survived and with his blood type were back in Africa.  Maybe he should have stayed where he was?

Item: Maybe he should have initially said to the nurse (the first time he went to the hospital), “I have been directly exposed to a Ebola victim, I have Ebola”.

Item: Pity he didn’t fly into Washington D.C. and take a tour bus to the White House and walk in the front door.

Item:  The nephew of Thomas Duncan gave this interview to ABC News which initially posted the story on their webpage.  That story has since been deleted.  Interesting, is it not?

Where is the Case for Co-Ed Ground Combat?

Duh!

The Obama Administration expects the Marine Corps to find a way to assign women to ground combat units without lowering standards. In the independent view of CMR, quantitative research done so far indicates that these expectations cannot be met. Androgenic characteristics in men, which are not going to change, account for greater muscle power and aerobic (endurance) capabilities that are essential for survival and mission accomplishment in direct ground combat.

US Marine Corps Research Findings: Where is the Case for Co-Ed Combat?

For example:

  • Physical strength disparities are most relevant in tests of upper-body strength and endurance. Significant percentages of female volunteers were unable to perform several proxy tests simulating upper body strength requirements of direct ground combat units.
  • Proxy tests under controlled conditions are not definitive, but they clearly indicate that ordering women to lift or march with heavy burdens under wartime conditions would set them up for disproportionate injuries, and put all personnel and missions at greater risk.
  • Joint Chiefs Chairman General Martin Dempsey has suggested that standards too high for women should be questioned, and the administration endorses recommendations for “gender diversity metrics.” Implementation of these goals would, over time, erode high standards in the combat arms.
  • General Dempsey also has called for a “critical mass” of women in ground combat units, and administration proposals for achieving “gender diversity metrics” (read, quotas) could result in the replacement of personnel meeting high standards with others performing at minimum, “lower but equal” levels.
Some of the organizations involved in the design of Marine Corps Force Integration Plan projects and subsequent studies, such as RAND, are not independent, objective, or likely to challenge the administration’s monolithic group-think on military/social issues.
  • The theoretical 3% of women who might meet minimum male standards could move from rising career opportunities to lower status in ground combat units. In that physically-demanding environment, they would be at a disadvantage and subject to disproportionate stress and risks of debilitating injury.
  • Reliance on “gender-neutral standards” likely would be overruled by political forces, budget cutters, recruiters, and Pentagon advisory groups that promote a liberal agenda. The predictable formula is simple: Incrementalism + Consistency = Radical Change.

Birth of Laser Tag

12 absurd olympic events: Duelingbirth of laser tag

The event was held twice. Wearing masks, contestants would try and shoot each other in the face with wax bullets. In the 1908 Olympics, where the event itself was actually held in 1906, the impressively names Sir Cosmo Duff Gordon competed. He is famed for having later survived the sinking of the Titanic.

American Digest has the link on the sidebar, Gerald picked a different “sport” to make fun of.  SOLO SYNCHRONIZED SWIMMING

Yeah, Solo,  he might be right.  At least it looks more ridiculous.

Brick Klin Lane in Pembroke; 1966 & 2011.

Found an old photograph (but not the negative, unfortunately) of the remains of the old shipyard launching ramp from 1966 and the same spot in 2011 re-purposed as the Pembroke Town Landing on the North River.

In 1966 there is an dingy being rowed in by my father, our 17′ Amesbury Skiff is moored in the river behind him.  You can see the rails going down to the water and an old cradle which at that time was still in service.

In 1966 the old shipyard at Brick Klin Lane and todays town landingThis is what it looked like in December 2011.

1966 is so long ago that a citizen could go boating without the state trying it’s best to rob them blind.

Update:  I’m adding a photo from 2011 of the Herring River in Scituate in response to the comment from Will.

This what you mean?  Can you see the bank of the river under the surface of the water?

Refreshing in a strange way.

Oddly refreshing, a major fubar here in the land of the free that isn’t Barry Soetoro’s fault…

JPMorgan Bracing For ‘Spear Phishing’ Campaign: Sources

JPMorgan Chase (NYSE: JPM) officials are bracing for a massive spear phishing campaign launched by cyber thieves who broke into the bank’s servers in the biggest cyber-attack on a U.S. bank to date. Cyber criminals thought to be emanating from Russia or former Soviet satellite states hacked into numerous JPMorgan computer servers and accessed contact information like names and email addresses for 76 million customers and seven million small businesses.

JPMorgan is saying no bank account information was compromised, but it now fears the hackers will come back for this information in another wave of attacks directly on bank customers. Cyber criminals broke into JPMorgan’s servers in June; the breach was then shut down in August.

339496.fullWell my plan is all coming together.  First I realized that Caller-ID had become worthless, at least as far as reliably identifying the true identity of the caller.  It can be blocked, it can be hacked, caller-id can be manipulated into showing anything the hacker wants you to see.  So I stopped paying $10 a month for the feature.  Then I stopped picking up the phone.  The machine was set to the minimum number of rings and I listened to the callers message.  But the only callers leaving messages were political and everyone else was hanging up.  So I shut off the audible ringer and stopped listening to the callers as they called in.  Seven, eight calls a day on average, maybe only one left a message and that is usually a doctors office with appointment reminders (and Cindy Crawford trying to get back together…). wizofid7-2“Ditch the land-line why don’tcha ?!”

I’ve heard that on more than one occasion, if not that then, “You still have a land-line?“.    But consider, if I didn’t have that land-line attached to that answering machine then what number do I give the banks, doctors offices, delivery services, etc and whatnot…   And boys and girls, where do you think the numbers and names come from that are used in those Phishing expeditions?  Do you have a cell phone?  Do I?…(I’m not telling).  When the last home line is turned off then the only number they will have to pursue you on will be that cell number.

So don’t call it a land-line if that bothers you, call it a bullet trap.   By the way, J.P. Morgan-Chase holds the credit card I use for monthly recurring payment, that is the last credit card I have that so far has been un-hacked.   Nice going lamebrain!

The Smoking Gun, again.

In 2010, Obama administration scrapped CDC quarantine regulations

In October 2014, the first patient on American soil infected with the Ebola virus sits in isolation in a Texas hospital, prompting calls for travel restrictions between the United States and Ebola-stricken countries.

Meanwhile, four years ago, the administration of President Barack Obama moved with virtually no fanfare to abandon a comprehensive set of regulations which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) had called essential to preventing international travelers from spreading deadly diseases inside the United States.

The CDC had proposed the regulations in 2005 under the administration of George W. Bush, reported USA Today in 2010. The original impetus for the regulations was fear that avian flu would spread unchecked.

You ask yourself who would oppose common-sense protections against future global pandemics?   But this is the Regime of crony Capitalism and unbalanced obsession with Civil Rights so when the Airline lobbyists and the ACLU lawyers waved their flags, Barry obeyed.

What a President.  And what a Congress.  When the first American infected on American soil dies will they still do nothing?

I did that.

crbc141001My father worked at Sears. One day I came into the store to buy something and stopped by his department to say hello.  He was talking with another employee and the store manager, whom he introduced me too.  Then he said, “Tell my boss what a great guy I am, talk me up to my boss!”.

Without a pause I said, “Well, since he stopped drinking he doesn’t fall down as much.”   His boss almost fell on the floor laughing, my father turned beet-red.

Never hand me a straight line.    Never.

Quick note on Ebola in Africa: Updated

Three thousand American Military (probably engineers) are beginning to build dozens of hospitals in Africa to hold Ebola patients.  (No questions are being asked about why those nations didn’t build those hospitals with the aid money given for that purpose years ago.)  However the Australians aren’t coming…

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said the Australian Health and Defense Departments had both advised that Australia could not safely evacuate Australian health workers back home, telling reporters, “The Australian government is not about to risk the health of Australian workers in the absence of credible evacuation plans that could bring our people back to Australia.”

The Aussies are right.  This is not the job our soldiers signed up for.  Without a working Ebola vaccine we as a nation and that idiot in the White House Red Shed have no right to expose our troops to this kind of grave risk.

That’s my opinion.

Update: Ebola in the USA

Details about first U.S. Ebola patient a mystery

Little is known about the patient, including his name, age, and nationality. Officials say he lived and worked in Liberia, where he likely caught the disease from one of the thousands infected in that country, but showed no symptoms when he flew back to the U.S. Sept. 19. As a result, no one who traveled with him on that flight is at risk of Ebola.

It is not clear why he traveled to Dallas, where he has been in isolation at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital since Sunday. Federal officials told the Dallas Morning News he was visiting family members, while city officials told the paper that he had made a permanent move.

Hospital officials also told the News that they were reviewing an initial decision to send the man home with antibiotics this past Friday after he turned up at the hospital feeling unwell. He was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance two days later and was immediately placed in isolation. Blood tests by Texas health officials and the CDC separately confirmed his Ebola diagnosis on Tuesday.

Until the last infected patient in Africa is dead or recovers, anyone who wants to travel to West Africa should only do so with the understanding that they will go into quarantine for three weeks upon their return.

After “Surprising” comes “Shocking”

Toon J3Electricity rate spike ‘shocking’

Electric rates (In New England) are headed north this winter, with dramatic hikes of 37 percent for homes and 75 percent for large businesses (In Massachusetts)— “shocking”
increases that consumer and retail advocates say come at the worst possible time.

Because the pipes that bring natural gas into the region have not kept up with increased
demand for natural gas, the companies generating electricity for National Grid and others to deliver to consumers must pay more for the gas, according to National Grid

(JohntheRiver:If the cost of natural gas is the root cause of the higher electric rates then what will natural gas cost when delivered straight to our homes this winter for heating, hot water and cooking?)

When reality differs from the smug expectations of the Government experts it’s “surprising”, when the long march of interference, political pandering and bonehead decisions come home to roost it’s “shocking”.

Perhaps to thee, but not to me.  I think I can say that I’ve been waiting for this.

  • Forced closing of Coal fired power plants.
  • Subsidized preferences for Solar and Wind power (even after the cautionary examples from Europe of the shortcomings).
  • (In Massachusetts) the waste of years and millions in the failed attempt to build deep water natural gas terminals in Boston Harbor and Fall River.
  • NIMBY (Not in my back yard) stonewalling over any and all attempts to build new gas transmission lines to the North East.
  • No new Nuclear Energy Power Plants.  Or the slightest hope of any.

Other than the item on new or expanded gas pipelines, none of the media stories I’ve read have talked about the other real causes of the coming Gas-Tastrophe or that the real causes are all political, and NOT technical.  (All plans or objections that are based on carbon reduction or carbon capture are 100% political and not based on verified observation or proven science.)

So this winter some people will die since at the lower end of the social scale they will be forced into a choice between buying food or paying for energy, starving or freezing.  Some businesses will be laying off workers, some businesses will move to sunnier (and less bone stupid) climes. But first, in November, the voters of Massachusetts will elect the same loony nitwits that created this disaster in the first place.

This Winter/ What to do?

People will suffer.  Jobs will be lost.  What can be done?  What are our choices?

  • Wind & Solar:  No.  Useless, most expensive form of electrical power. Plus no existing power plants can be replaced because when the sun don’t shine and the wind don’t blow then 100% of the load must be maintained by something that works.
  • Off-shore Natural Gas terminals:  No. Takes years so no help this winter. Plus, requires rescheduling LNG tankers of which there are a finite number and scheduled years in advance.   But no reason not to push forward since this isn’t the last winter Massachusetts will face (I hope).
  • Gas Transmission Lines (Pipelines):   No. Again takes years. So get started.
  • Nuclear:   No.  Years/Decades.  But new Next Generation Nuclear is the perfect fix for New England.  The nuclear plants of the ’50’s and ’60’s contributed to the good times that lasted for several decades. Then we dropped the ball.  The Chinese are building the Thorium cycle and Isotope power plants that we designed and never were allowed to build.  I’m not holding my breath but I’m crossing my fingers.
  • Re-start existing Coal Plants:  Yes!  The only solution that can help us this winter. Cheaper too!  Even helps out other Americans in coal producing states.  But the biggest likely delay from Green lawsuits by consciousness bastards who don’t give a damn about those poor starving and freezing souls who are their own supporters.theo2

Live by the sword, die by the sword.

Politics created this.

Politics (as usual) will create an almost impossible barrier to correcting it.

Politics have been hijacked.

Politics are not serving the people, but are used to control them.

I want to really “Shock” the decision makers. I want to make them accountable for all these myriad mistakes and this Gas-Tastrophe.

There are no new jokes.

Rabbits……………….

Leading drug companies have announced that White Rabbits will no longer be used in scientific experiments.
Muslims will now be used instead. There are three reasons for this change…

A top scientist has stated that the advantages of using Muslims are the following:

  • First they breed faster than rabbits after arriving in civilized countries.
  • Unlike cute rabbits the researchers don’t become fond of their subjects.  And most important…
  • There are some things a White Rabbit will not do!

I recognized the form of the joke immediately, I first encountered it thirty years ago and it became my favorite Lawyer joke (and used white rats).   The link goes to Theo Spark but this version of the joke is a rewrite of the original lawyer joke re-adding the third line…Bazinga!
