Pay the Piper.

Nice Party?

Preliminary estimates of the property damage caused by the riots, lootings, and arson in the Twin Cities region of Minnesota come to about $500 million across more than 500 businesses, according to the Star Tribune.

The half-billion figure, if it holds up, would make the Twin Cities riots the second most destructive civil disturbance in the country’s history. The 1992 Los Angeles riots cost the insurance industry alone $775 million at the time, or around $1.4 billion adjusted for inflation. About half of small businesses in the U.S. aren’t insured.

WATCH: Black Woman Has a Meltdown… Over Not Being Able to Loot Neighborhood Stores

Beth Baumann

Editor’s Note: Graphic Language

A black woman in Chicago filmed a Facebook live video of armed citizens defending local businesses. According to the woman, people should be allowed to loot stores because they’re already insured.

“They let these people come outside with they AK-47s. Ak-47s to protect they stuff from black people. They ready to kill black people, the Arabs, the fake a** Ramadan mother f**kers. They got M-16s, AK with they people’s out here. Everything y’all. Look at this s**t,” she said, flipping the camera to a nearby store. “They got mother f**kin’ AKs out here and I’m going to get my cousin that’s a police officer right now and ask him are they legally able to carry these mother f**kin’ guns like this.”

The woman said she planned to call her cousin who is a homicide detective because she wanted to know if it was legal for the men to stand outside the stores with firearms.

“You tell me that those mother f**kers that don’t live here, they don’t live here. This is not a United States citizen and he is sitting outside with a whole AK-47 ready to blow black people’s brains out, but they say they from America. And this is how they protect cheap a** sh*t.”

The woman went on a tirade, saying the men outside are from Morocco and aren’t legal citizens.

“They ready to kill black people over this cheap a** sh*t they got from China! They ready kill somebody,” she said. “Got a black man out here with these guns ready to kill us! They said don’t break into they store but they on our turf and this some mother f**kin’ cheap a** China building supplies fake a** mother f**kin’ Boost Mobile fake a** sh*t. And this is how they protect they sh*t. They ready to kill me!”

She went on to say she knows the men didn’t have an Illinois license to carry.

“This isn’t a right to bear arms! These people got the black man out here ready to kill more black people if we decide to loot they store. They ready to kill us!” she exclaimed. “But b**ch we gonna come back and you gotta have that gun all mother f**kin’ day because you don’t even know who I am!”

To make matters even more interesting, the woman drove off and asked her Facebook Live audience where the police were.

“I’m talking to the Chicago Police because I wanna know, can Arabs that don’t have no mother f**kin’ citizenship, can they carry AK-47s to protect their s**t that came from China? And I’m talking to the CPD right now!”

The woman pulled up on two officers in a nearby parking lot. She alerted the pair to the incident down the street. The police made her aware that the stores in question were outside of their territory.

“She gone say it ain’t they district. That’s what I’m gone tell you about these b**ch a** police. They don’t want none of this, but I’m gonna go back over here because I wanna look at these punk mother f**kers,” she said.

According to the woman, people shouldn’t be defending their business because they’re already covered by insurance.

“Mother f**ker, our life ain’t insured!” she screamed.

Warning ?? language- woman upset she can’t loot store because…. the rant is hysterical ???? https://t.co/ouyGBLJeSX pic.twitter.com/52KpCx7vgI

ACSH.ORG: Remdesivir.

acsh.org

Will Inhaled Remdesivir Make You Breathe Easy? Maybe

As an anti-coronavirus therapy, Remdesivir has been rather disappointing. That’s primarily because the drug is given intravenously to those who are already very ill with COVID-19. But what would happen if the drug could be delivered directly to the lungs, to prevent severe disease? Gilead is giving it a shot. Here are some of the pros and cons of that approach.

Over the past few months I’ve been arguing that remdesivir, the only approved drug for SARS-2 infection, was never going to make a meaningful impact on COVID because it is an IV-only drug, meaning that it will only be administered to very ill people who are in the hospital and who would most likely benefit least from the drug.

So I’ve been calling for a pill – something that Gilead previously stated that it had no intention of developing (1). But the company has an alternative in mind; a dry powder inhaler (DPI) of remdesivir which would be delivered directly to the lungs where the drug is needed most. Dry powder formulations of steroids and long-acting beta-adrenergic agonists (LABAs) have become the mainstay of asthma and COPD. Will this strategy work to control coronavirus? It makes a lot of sense but it only goes so far – there are plusses and minuses.

THE PLUSES

Dry powder steroids have revolutionized the way asthma is treated (2). The drug is delivered in a metered-dose, only to the lungs. Although small quantities of the steroid are absorbed into the blood, this amount (and thus, the myriad of side effects) is minuscule compared to that of oral steroids – something to be avoided whenever possible. Systemic corticosteroids are dangerous and unpleasant to take (See: Prednisone: Satan’s Little Helper.).

Although most DPIs are combinations of different steroids and beta-agonists there are exceptions. Muscarinic antagonists (Ellipta, others) act by relaxing smooth muscle cells in the lung.
Although most DPIs are intended for asthma there are exceptions. There are four FDA-approved flu medicines (3). The best known are Tamiflu and Relenza. There is little difference in efficacy between the two –they both suck – but at least Relenza won’t have you spewing up breakfast like Tamiflu:

“SO MUCH BARFAGE. the first night I was up all night chained to the toilet… “

From 4 Prescription Drugs People Hate, May 2019

So at least in theory, inhaled remdesivir sounds like a very good idea.

THE MINUSES

Although delivering an antiviral drug to the site of infection may seem like an ideal solution this is an untested approach.

ACSH advisor and infectious disease expert Dr. David Shlaes is not so sanguine about the prospect of inhaled remdesivir;

“Looking at attempts to use inhaled antibiotics – we should not be encouraged. Inhaled antibiotics have been shown to work for chronic lung infections such as occur in cystic fibrosis.  But the myriad attempts to use inhaled antibiotics to treat acute pulmonary infections have had controversial and inconsistent results.

Regarding COVID, there are several problems here. The first is that COVID may not be just a pulmonary infection so direct delivery may not provide sufficient systemic exposure to treat other body sites of infection. The second is related to pulmonary elimination of foreign material – which is very efficient. The formulation has to be one that keeps a highly water-soluble molecule from diffusing away instantly. Then there is the issue of safety – yet to be determined.

Let’s go for an orally available systemic alternative”

David Shlaes, MD, private communication.

Although virtually all the news (3) about treating/preventing COVID-19 involves vaccines, I’ll breathe a lot easier when an effective antiviral is out there. Plenty can go wrong with vaccine development despite the irrational exuberance we are now witnessing.

Gimme a damn pill.

NOTES

(1) Although Gilead stated months ago that it was not going to develop remdesivir in pill form it would seem that the company has changed its mind.

(2) It is known that it is better to prevent asthma attacks rather than treatment. While rescue inhalers are still necessary I was able to stop carrying one 20 years ago.

(3) I am not including amantidine. Although it is approved for influenza it is essentially worthless.

(4) With the bizarre exception of hydroxychloroquine. See Dr. Chuck (Chucky D.) Dinerstein’s article on the latest twist to this strange story.

Look, I’m not even going to pretend:

I am enjoying the hell out of all this blue on blue shitstorm. This is a fiasco entirely of their own making, and it couldn’t happen to a finer collection of race-baiters, intersectional virtue-signallers and tin-pot despots than you could ever imagine.

Reason 666 I don’t go into Boston anymore.

George Floyd rioters deface 16 Boston statues, including memorial honoring black Civil War regiment

Protesters and rioters incensed by the death of George Floyd destroyed at least 16 memorials and statues in Boston, including one dedicated to black soldiers.

The Robert Gould Shaw and the 54th Regiment Memorial, a sculpture dedicated to black soldiers who fought in the Civil War, was damaged after thousands of protesters descended on Boston Common to protest police brutality against black people, according to Boston NPR affiliate WBUR.

“This monument is considered one of the nation’s greatest pieces of public art and the greatest piece to come out of the Civil War,” Liz Vizza, the executive director of the Friends of the Public Garden, said. “It was, amazingly enough, dedicated 123 years ago on May 31 — the day it was defaced.”

The Shaw memorial depicts likenesses of the 54th Massachusetts Regiment, the first black volunteer infantry unit in the Civil War, which fought after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.

The other 15 memorials were honoring American Patriots and Heroes… that weren’t black… so no outrage or regret expressed for them.   Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh owns this.  He has done nothing (just like other Democrat Mayors) to stop any of it.   In fact he has encouraged it.

A Plea from NYC

NY Police Union: ‘We Are Losing the City, We Have No Leadership, No Direction, No Plan’

Sergeants Benevolent Association President Ed Mullins. (SBA website)

Sergeants Benevolent Association President Ed Mullins. (SBA website)

“I am being inundated with calls, text messages and emails pleading for help,” Mullins wrote in his statement.  “Please know that I am reading each and every correspondence I receive. I want each of you to know that I am very much aware of everything that is occurring in our city.”

“I know we are losing the city,” he said.  “We have no leadership, no direction, and no plan. I know you are being held back and used as pawns. I understand. I am one of you! I am doing, and I will continue to do, everything I can to protect you and the people of this city.”

“So I am asking you to please stay together and stay strong,” wrote Mullins. Hold the line and protect each other. Stand shoulder to shoulder and DO NOT give up. NEVER GIVE UP!”

“I hear you,” he added. “I am aware and soon everyone is going to hear you. Help is coming and we will win this war on New York City. Remember, you work for a higher authority. It’s good against evil and good always wins.”

Mullins then quoted from some of the messages he has received from fellow sergeants in the NYPD:

“Total nightmare last night. The executives of the NYPD are going to get a member of the service killed. They have no plan set in motion.”

“You have inspectors and Chiefs running around the city with no direction. Leave the police work to the frontline supervisors.”

(Getty Images)

(Getty Images)

“I’ve been at these riots since the beginning. I have been hit with eggs, bricks, rocks.”

“My officers are depleted, tired, beat up.”

“Our officers and supervisors are getting hurt every night DOING THEIR JOBS without ANY support from our PC & Mayor.”

”I am so angry with how this has been handled its bringing me to tears with frustration to write it…for the 1st time in my 16yr career all ranks have been abandoned by our leadership.”

“We have pepperball guns, tear gas, and other anti criminal riot apparatus such as horses not being deployed!”

(Getty Images)

(Getty Images)

“We need to be able to use our tools that are available to us.”

“The leadership of the NYPD has to go.”

“Please what can be done?”

“We need help.”

“Blue Bloods” and Tom Selleck as the NYC Police Commissioner is a fantasy, and has never been so far from the ugly truth.
