The Journal News is the paper that (in print and on-line) decided to print the names and addresses of all legally registered gun permit holders in its area.
New York Journal News Publishes Gun Owners’ Names In Westchester, Rockland Counties
ABC News reached out to the Journal News for a statement. The paper told ABC that its readers “are understandably interested to know about guns in their neighborhoods,” after the tragic shooting in Newtown, Conn.
The Journal News is owned by Gannett.
Well, the left doesn’t own all the media anymore. From a New Rochelle Blog..
Map: Where are the Journal News employees in your neighborhood?
Heh, heh, heh! It’s a turning world brother.
The creator of the counter-article and the editor of the hosting blog (Robert Cox) was interviewed about his reasons for the post and what he intended.
Q. Why did you decide to make the reporters’ and editors’ information public on the web.
I trust you are aware that unlike most states, New York (and California) requires that a pistol permit holder to register EVERY handgun they own not just get the license. The initial Journal News FOIL request sought this information. I expect that the Journal News will ultimately prevail and get this information and update their map and make it searchable by weapon type. I would oppose that as I do the current iteration of the map. I did not want to merely respond but discourage further development of their map or at least give them pause.
I wanted a direct and proportionate response in the spirit of “do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. I could not think of anything more direct and proportionate than flipping the script by using public records to map the folks at the Journal News the way they mapped my friends and neighbors. I hope they now realize that in the age of social media and blogs, the people known formerly as the audience, can throw a counterpunch from time to time. My map was my counterpunch.
That reporter (Noreen O’Donnell) used none of the interview in her story. Dropping Mr. Cox’s explanation, identity and the name of his blog (can’t have anyone exposed to another side of the story) she only referred to him as ” some critics” and used it solely as a lead-in to a quote … Howard Good, a journalism professor at the State University of New York at New Paltz, called the critics’ response childish and petulant.
Thank you Professor, you may have a cracker…
An update to the story includes this information which may indicate how some people may want to get involved.
The Westchester County Firearm Owners Association is an organization whose members were most directly targeted by the Journal News. They view the map as an attempt by the paper to “intimidate and bully lawful gun-owning citizens”.
In response, the WCFOA has compiled a list of Journal News Advertisers.

ROCKLAND COUNTY TIMES EXCLUSIVE
Armed guards from RGA Investigations have taken up post at the Journal News’ Rockland County headquarters ……..

Guns are good for the goose but NOT for the gander.
“A Clarkstown police report issued on December 28, 2012, confirmed that The Journal News has hired armed security guards from New City-based RGA Investigations and that they are manning the newspaper’s Rockland County headquarters at 1 Crosfield Ave., West Nyack, through at least tomorrow, Wednesday, January 2, 2013.”
That’s right, the Anti Gun Newspaper has hired ARMED SECURITY.

I wonder who they are alarmed about? If they are idiots (possible, very possible) they might actually think that law abiding, legally armed citizens would sully their honor with the intimidation tactics of the left.
Nice as it is to see any comments posted in response to my postings, the format of your comment makes me wonder if it is just a robot.
