Republicans Flicker On Light Bulb Ban Repeal

Here in the Northeast, there used to be several factories that manufactured these bulbs, I used to work on their telephone systems and when these and other manufacturing customers folded up  and moved to China my industry lost a lot of support jobs. And here I am today, unemployed and blogging.

“Those companies who were less enthused about the light bulb ban found resisting futile, in the end happy enough to delay the effective dates to allow for more orderly close down of factories and job eliminations.”

USA unemployment state by state, changes plus or minus jobs.

Note the difference between states with Republican Gov. or legislatures and their Democratic counterparts.

The Metaphysics of Contemporary Theft

Same Old, Same Old…

Last week was another somewhat depressing chapter in a now long saga of living where I was born. I returned to the farm from leading a European military history tour, and experienced the following — mind you, after a number of thefts the month prior (barn, shop, etc.):

1) I left my chainsaw in the driveway to use the restroom inside the house. Someone driving buy saw it. He slammed on the brakes, stole it, and drove off. Neat, quick, easy. Mind you there was only a 5-minute hiatus in between my cutting. And the driver was a random passer-by. That suggests to me that a high number of rural Fresno County motorists can prove to be opportunistic thieves at any given moment. Continue reading

Heinlein:

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.

This is known as “bad luck.”

Big Boating Weekend, if Driftway is any example.

Plus another powerboat that already passed by to the left, two kayaks already launched and heading towards the Spit to the right and two more kayaks ten yards downstream preparing to launch.

I didn’t take a picture of the mob at the Spit since there were so many craft of all types going every which way , pulling onto the sand, off the sand , plus swimers in the water I didn’t risk putting the paddle down long enough to record the scene. Also the twenty-something guys on the beach think I’m taking a picture of their girlfriends in their bikini and might throw a can of domestic beer at me.

Tax dollars for La Raza skyrocket after Obama appoints one of its leaders to White House post

You do know who and what “La Raza” is don’t you?  In the Spanish language the term La Raza translates literally to “the race” and more symbolically to “the people.” And they ain’t talking about you, Gringo.  At anti-immigration law protests (in this country) they are the bunch waving Mexican flags, only Mexican flags. La Raza movement teach that Colorado, California, Arizona, Texas, Utah, New Mexico, Oregon and parts of Washington State make up an area known as “Aztlan” — a fictional ancestral homeland of the Aztecs before Europeans arrived in North America. As such, it belongs to the followers of MEChA. These are all areas America should surrender to “La Raza” once enough immigrants, legal or illegal, enter to claim a majority, as in Los Angeles. The current borders of the United States will simply be extinguished.

And now we are helping fund their treasonable activities with federal dollars after the vice-president of La Raza is appointed by Obama to a key government job.

Why 70% Tax Rates Won’t Work

From the Wall Street Journal

Why 70% Tax Rates Won’t Work

By ALAN REYNOLDS

The intelligentsia of the Democratic Party is growing increasingly enthusiastic about raising the highest federal income tax rates to 70% or more. Former Labor Secretary Robert Reich took the lead in February, proposing on his blog “a 70 percent marginal tax rate on the rich.” After all, he noted, “between the late 1940s and 1980 America’s highest marginal rate averaged above 70 percent. Under Republican President Dwight Eisenhower it was 91 percent. Not until the 1980s did Ronald Reagan slash it to 28 percent.”  Continue reading
