Hey! Didn’t the Soviet Union used to pull this shit?

Disclaimer; The Newsalert Blogspot put this up today as a headline with no indication that the story is two years old.  I decided to post it anyway since it poses interesting questions…actually I posted it because I had thought up my own post title and thought that it was a point worth repeating.

GOVERNMENT ARRESTING PEOPLE FOR ANTI-OBAMA FACEBOOK POSTS

Dude, there aren’t enough psych beds in the entire country.  The video indicates that this is the fruit of that poisonous tree “Operation Vigilant Eagle”.

Operation Vigilant Eagle is an American law-enforcement effort headed by the FBI aimed at identifying and preventing violence from white supremacists and “militia/sovereign-citizen extremist groups” .[1] The operation was first mentioned in the Wall Street Journal in April 2009.

My, my!  They really have us sandwiched in-between the racist nutjobs and the cheapskate nutjobs that never heard of Article I section VIII and the Sixteenth Amendment.   Remember folks, the Homeland Security and the FBI which are collectively known as the SS, always wear vests.  Headshots only.  (knock on the door in 5 , 4, 3 …

Fortieth What?

Does a Wedding Anniversary stop being a anniversary when one partner is gone?

A few days before the wedding my mother, sister and their friends gave Donie a Bridal Shower.  The only picture I have of that.img040 bridal showerThat’s probably exactly forty years ago, today.  A short forty years. It’s the last three years that have been long.

Our WeddingThanks to the fire ten years ago, this is the only picture surviving of the wedding.  Under the pine trees at my parents house.  Reverend Al from Hingham.  June 21st, 1974.

Years of being poor, years of working far to many hours a week, years passing with family weddings, births, deaths and vacations.

Mea Culpa

If jihadists control Iraq

I blame Bush, sorry but this time I really do. Yes the Democrats and in particular their leader (where-ever he came from) did walk away from a victory, a prize in our eyes but not to theirs. But that is their nature. We don’t have to rehash the old story about the scorpion, do we?

Bush knew he couldn’t stay in office forever, that the Congress was going to flip flop between parties, as it always has. He should have known that unless his party controlled both houses of Congress, his programs would be thwarted. OK, he couldn’t have seen Barak Obama coming, who did? But that just accelerated the decay.

After smashing Saddam’s army, cleansing the country of Ba’ath influences; army, judiciary, and bureaucracy. He wanted to rebuild everything in a democratic framework. But he and Iraq didn’t have the time. Neither of them, the President or that sad nation had the decades and decades of time that South Korea, Japan, Germany or the Philippines had. All the while covered by the cloak of American military power. America will never be able to do what we did in those countries again not while we are hamstrung by the vicious political dichotomy between progressives and everyone else.

Yes, this is primo Monday morning quarterbacking, but I don’t get paid the big bucks to make the right decision for America the first time around. George Bush did. And this is going to cost us, big.

Iran’s “offer” to send troops, in the shadow of Obama’s inactivity, will probably be accepted as the lessor of two evils. Then Iran, in control of Iraq, will bloodlessly absorb Kuwait. Saudi Arabia will exercise it’s option to buy Paki Nuclear Warheads. The balance of power having changed so drastically all the Gulf states will quickly change their allegiances and it will NOT favor the US. At that point there will be nothing Barak Obama could do, even if he wanted to. On the up side, there is very little additional harm Obama can do in that region even if he tried.

Will I be found to be wrong in my assessment? Christ, I hope so. By the way, I voted for George W. Bush twice, so I accept my share of the responsibility.

Hi, I’m Saddam Hussein. Miss me yet?

Islamic terrorists seize Saddam Hussein’s hometown after 500,000 flee unrest in Iraq’s second-largest city, Mosul

Al-Qaeda-inspired militants seized effective control Wednesday of Saddam Hussein’s hometown of Tikrit, expanding their offensive closer to the Iraqi capital as soldiers and security forces abandoned their posts following clashes with the insurgents.

Fighters from the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) took control a day earlier of much of Mosul, Iraq’s second-largest city, in a major blow to the authority of the country’s Shiite government.

An estimated half a million residents fled the economically important city.

Whoever is holding the pink slip on American Honor, you’re busted.

I guess it seemed like a good idea at the time.  Get rid of a bloodstained dictator, knock down the Ba’ath Party and rid the police and army of the loyalists to each.  In short, level the political, security and bureaucracy and wait for democracy to  grow.

Still waiting.

Miss me yet?

Saddam held the power in that nation kingdom for twenty-four years and it wasn’t entirely because he was brutal and kept such a tight grip, in part it was because he was what the majority of the people expected, and were used to.  If the people of that region were evolving and wanted something different then they would have moved against him.  Because to have an Democracy you need a tradition of free elections, free press, strong trust in the fundamental honesty of other fellow citizens  living in areas of your country that you have never seen.  These things take time, in South Korea development beyond rule by De Facto dictators or military rule required forty years.  Iraq was to have less than five.

In the meantime, Saddam held what could be called a key position in the stability of the entire Middle East.  He maintained pressure against Iran, doubly so towards Revolutionary Iran.  The American Guns for Hostages deal in the eighties came about because the Iranians were hard pressed by Saddam’s Iraq.  Likewise, contrary to some reports, Saddam knew better than to allow Al-Qaeda to operate in his country.  He never gave them more than token support.

But, Venimus, Vidimus, Deus vicit at the cost of thousands of American lives and trillions of dollars of American Treasure.  Somewhere in-between there were elections in America.  The Democrats regained power, first in Congress then in the Executive Office.  And the day that George W. Bush left office all our laurels turned to dust.  Unlike S. Korea there was to be no steadying American political or military presence.  No backstop of American naval and air bases to deter potent local enemies.  The dream of a democratic Iraq turned out to be paper, and the paper is burning today while we watch.  Syria would never have happened as it did if Iraq had a strong American presence.  Iran stroked the fires of war and sectarian violence by airlifting supplies through Iraq’s airspace, not with Falcons in the air they wouldn’t.  Boko Harum running wild, not with serious American ground forces and attack planes a single hop away.  (OK, that’s a stretch).   All the dreams and potential wasted after the price was paid and the prize was won.  All because of one fool.

There’s an old saying we used a lot in my former career, “If it’s stupid and it works, it isn’t stupid”.   I’m afraid the Iraq and especially Afghanistan wars can be described with, “If it was a dream but it wasn’t real, then it was a stupid idea in the first place”.    Don’t start something you aren’t going to finish, don’t finish anything then leave the prize on the ground.   Because that’s just stupid.

U.S. Said to Rebuff Iraqi Request to Strike Militants

WASHINGTON — As the threat from Sunni militants in western Iraq escalated last month, Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki secretly asked the Obama administration to consider carrying out airstrikes against extremist staging areas, according to Iraqi and American officials.

But Iraq’s appeals for a military response have so far been rebuffed by the White House, which has been reluctant to open a new chapter in a conflict that President Obama has insisted was over when the United States withdrew the last of its forces from Iraq in 2011.

Bet they are really missing old George Bush now!

The United States has provided a $14 billion foreign military aid package to Iraq that includes F-16 fighter jets, Apache attack helicopters and M-16 rifles. It has rushed hundreds of Hellfire missiles as well as ScanEagle reconnaissance drones.

Not just money down the drain, but an excellent start towards equipping the next Jihadist attack with modern weapons in perfect condition.  If I were in Saudi Arabia I’d be shaking in my slippers right now.

Solar Flares Disrupt Communications on Earth, Could Send Shockwave on Friday the 13th

The sun has had three major solar flares on its surface in the past two days that have affected communications on Earth and could send a shockwave through Earth this Friday, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The “solar events” caused brief blackouts in high frequency communications when they struck, twice on Tuesday morning and once this morning, all between the hours of 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. EDT.

Solar flares are bursts of radiation on the sun’s surface. The disturbance to Earth’s atmosphere can disrupt GPS and communications signals, according to NASA.

One of the flares created a “coronal mass ejection” that actually could come into contact with Earth on Friday, according to NOAA. The ejection is essentially a huge cloud of plasma that could hit the Earth and cause a shock wave, affecting communications systems. If an ejection were to hit Earth on Friday, scientists expect it would only cause a minor geo-magnetic storm, according to NOAA.

The flares were observed by NASA, which posted stunning photos and videos of the events on its website.

Does a bear crap in the woods?

Undocumented Immigrants bringing diseases across border?

And Obama wants the iilegal children rushed into schools and housing all across America.  None Many (if not most) of these children have not been vaccinated.

(I was taken to task for the word “None” in the above sentence.  It was pointed out to me that to ascertain the percentage of these children that have not been vaccinated, it would require that they came from an area with a functioning healthcare system, and they don’t. I stand corrected.)
