Around the world, backlash against expensive climate-change policies

From Alberta to Australia, from Finland to France, and beyond, voters are increasingly showing their displeasure with expensive energy policies imposed by politicians in an inane effort to purportedly fight human-caused climate change.

As daily headlines become ever more shrill, hyping climate fears based on projections made by unverified climate models, the international public is becoming increasingly wary of the Chicken Little claims of impending climate doom. Voters in developed countries are saying “enough is enough” to high energy prices that punish the most vulnerable but do nothing to control the weather.

It’s theft and control and that’s all it’s ever been.

Snowflake awakening.

What!  You can be arrested for breaking the law?

Larceny is a felony.  Prepare to explain to Moms and Dads why you got kicked out of school.   Best comment on this, “She should be assigned community service, cleaning up at a abortion clinic. Since she obviously doesn’t have a clue about what the “deal” is.

QOTD: CO2

CO2 is hardly poisonous. It is essential for life on our planet and levels as high as 5000 ppm are considered safe on our submarines and on the space station. Current atmospheric levels are around 400 ppm.  Below 150 ppm, plant-life dies off on a massive scale.

Furthermore:

What few realize, however, is that during the last Ice Age too little CO2 in the air almost eradicated mankind. That’s when much-colder water in oceans (that were 400 feet shallower than today) sucked most of the carbon dioxide from the air; half of North America, Europe and Asia were buried under mile-high glaciers that obliterated everything in their paths; and bitterly cold temperatures further retarded plant growth.

In fact, Earth’s atmosphere had only about 180 parts per million CO2, compared to today’s 400 ppm: 0.018% then versus 0.040% today.

Worrying that 400 ppm is too high is like worrying about your fuel tank overflowing when it reaches the 1/8 mark during filling.

Lifted from InstaPundit.

TYLER COWEN: China Loses More From This Trade War. “It is vulnerable because it is a much poorer country with more fragile political institutions.”

To see why the full picture is more complicated, let’s say the U.S. slaps tariffs on the industrial inputs (whether materials or labor) it is buying from China. It is easy to see the immediate chain of higher costs for the U.S. businesses translating into higher prices for U.S. consumers, and that is what the afore-mentioned studies are picking up. But keep in mind China won’t be supplying those inputs forever, especially if the tariffs remain. Within a few years, a country such as Vietnam will provide the same products, perhaps at cheaper prices, because Vietnam has lower wages. So the costs to U.S. consumers are temporary, but the lost business in China will be permanent. Furthermore, the medium-term adjustment will have the effect of making China’s main competitors better exporters.

Obviously, no final long-run estimates are possible right now. But it is quite plausible that China will bear the larger costs here, not the U.S.

Another risk for China is this: As its access to U.S. markets becomes more difficult, China may be tempted to look to Europe. It remains to be seen whether the European Union will adopt additional protectionist measures, but China must consider that the possibility is more than zero.

Beijing has been enjoying the benefits of free trade with the West and the domestic political fruits of an increasingly anti-Western foreign policy. It’s time they were made to pick one.

Exclusive: Amazon rolls out machines that pack orders and replace jobs

Product is interesting, the comment is priceless.

The price is right, personally I wouldn’t use the Amazon ‘Cloud’ storage.

But this user comment is priceless…

Answer:
Normally Yes but the Chinese Ministry Of State ( they build these devices for resell on Amazon) sometimes will drop the NSA feed and reroute to Federal Protective Service of Russian under an agreement with the Obama administration. Their English is not too good but if you use your Alexa device ( built by the Chinese too) it will translate it perfectly. see less

2019 tour of North River launching sites.

I haven’t done this in a while, but we took a quick tour of the common launching points on the North River; between Scituate and Hanover.

The Driftway park and boat ramp in Scituate is open to car-top boats and powerboats.  Clean and usually has portta-johnnies on site.

Tide this day was unusually high.

Located near the bridge over the river between Norwell and Marshfield and situated in Marshfield.

At times in the past I’ve found this area to be trashed, literally.  Somebody went to a great deal of trouble to clean the area up this year.  I thank them, very much.

The Pembroke Town Landing on the North River is located at the end of Brick Klin Lane in Pembroke.

Very limited space for parking and at times tricky for passenger cars to traverse to rough dirt road.  No sign off the road to mark the entrance.  The rich prick who lives at the end of the road keeps ripping it down.

The Old Washington Street Bridge between Pembroke and Hanover qualifies as a launch spot, but parking an issue and the way down is steep and rough.

Current is very swift except at near dead low or high tide.  At low tide there isn’t enough water under the boat to paddle.

The Hanover Car-top launch at the Indian Head River.   The Indian Head River is a tributary of the North River, very shallow at low tide.  Plenty of parking.

Launch reports from years pass.

Got back to photography today: The Kayak Launch Area Report.

We’re in Heinleins Crazy Years.

Record Numbers of Public School Teachers Attacked as School Discipline Is Curbed

“A record 220,300 public school teachers reported that they were physically attacked by a student during the 2015-2016 school year, according to a report jointly published this month by the National Center for Education Statistics and the Bureau of Justice Statistics.

“The 220,300 public school teachers who said they were physically attacked by a student in 2015-2016 is up from the 197,400 who said they were attacked by a student in 2011-2012 (which is the last school year before 2015-2016 for which teachers were surveyed on the question).”

In recent years, many school systems have curbed suspensions of students who engage in “willful defiance” of their teachers. California plans to eliminate suspensions for all K-12 students for “willful defiance” (previously, it was an option for kids in grades 4-12).

California’s State Senate has voted 30-to-8 to ban such suspensions, and the State Assembly is expected to enact the ban into law. California’s legislature previously passed such a ban in 2018, but it was vetoed by former Governor Jerry Brown, who viewed it as too extreme. But Brown is no longer in office, and this time the ban is expected to become law.

The real cause of the Boward Florida school shooting was the Obama Administration changes to school discipline.  Suspending and Expelling lots of unteachable or disturbed students made for embarrassing statistics.   Forbid the school administrators to suspend or expel those students and the government report on school violence looks a lot better.

After all what else can the unruly or disturbed student do to get attention?
