A difficult question, can anybody help?

The Economist Ponders: Could It Be That Enforcing Our Immigration Laws Has Actually Increased Americans’ Wages?

—Ace

Answer: Yes, of course it has.

The Economist — which is liberal on all matters except trade and immigration, on which it is radical libertarian/transnationalist — can’t avoid noting that there seems to be some connection before flitting back to their preferred answer that “We Need to Build Bridges Not Walls.”

Immigration to America is down! Wages are up! Are the two related?

It’s raining.

I’m wet.

Are the two related?

This is The Economist, folks. The Economist wants to know if supply and demand are related in some fashion.

Leave a message at the beep.

I wish I had one of those new-fangled digital answering machines that can Bluetooth messages to you, then I could play back the message that I found on the machine when my girlfriend and I got home today.
It was a political pitch, but not prerecorded, it was a live shill for Bloomberg; reading from a prepared script but I don’t think the delivery of the pitch was what his masters had wanted from him.

He started off with a giggle, read a few words and stopped to laugh. Continued manfully on a couple more lines, giggled again. And so it went until he had finished his allotted script.

I hope he calls back next week, when I have a new Trump/2020 Reelection spiel recorded for a answering machine greeting.

Word Power, the Blitzkrieg Edition.

The German word ERKLÄRUNGSNOT refers to a moment in which you have been caught in a situation requiring an urgent explanation, but cannot find the words to account for your actions. It literally means ‘explanation poverty’.

An Amazon box sitting on the floor.  Two cats.

They were still playing with it when I left.

Waiting for the Rodger Stone conviction to be overturned.

Forewoman of Roger Stone Jury Criticizes Trump In FaceBook Post;
People Discover She Has Long Been a Rabidly Anti-Trump, Anti-Republican Zealot Who Ran for Congress as a Democrat and Tweeted About Stone Before the Trial

—Ace

This conviction will have to be thrown out. This woman is obviously biased beyond any capability of dispassionate evaluation. And she wasn’t just a juror, but the jury foreman, so she probably influenced the other jurors.

And also, it seems highly likely she lied in the voir dire process of weeding out biased jurors to get on the jury.

Look, I wouldn’t expect to get onto a jury that was trying Hillary Clinton for her crimes, I absolutely believe she is guilty as sin of EVERYTHING!   This bitch is my opposite number, what was she doing serving as jury foreperson on the trial of DJT’s lawyer?

Sounds about right.

Aesop at Raconteur Report summarizes the “middle case” for ” ordinary corona virus, with a 3% death rate (on average), and it spreads apace, like they do. An excerpt:

We’ll know sooner than a month. Those 5 initial U.S. cases started cropping up here about 14 days ago, so we’ll start seeing second-tier infections soon, if there are any. And if both our governmental overlords, and the ABCNNBCBS media, decides we should know about it. If we get 10-20 new cases shortly, we’re probably screwed.

At that rate, absent any other mitigating factors, it’s nationwide by around Christmas this year, and perhaps far sooner. And even with simple corona virus, that’s potentially up to 9M dead by then.
(3% of 300M or so). Pretty grim, all in all. If you get the short straw. Not so much if you’re in the other 97%. Sorry, but there it is.
