A single Tesla battery weighing 1,000 pounds requires extracting and processing some 500,000 pounds of materials. At this rate, over the next thirty years we will need to mine more mineral ores than humans have extracted over the last 70,000 years. #GreenEnergy

Ok looks like I have to add another tweet . You don’t just dig up batteries. Everything is a process. Overburden to tailings takes a great deal of energy. This is only one step in the process. Now lets haul that “dirt” or rock to the crusher.

Now after the crusher we need to put that “rock” thru a ball mill to crush it down smaller in order to start the chemical process.

And what do we end up with ? Mine tailings. Worldwide, the storage and handling of tailings is a major environmental issue. Many tailings are toxic and must be kept perpetually isolated from the environment. #GreenEnergy

Seems this thread has been getting quite a bit of attention. This is a mine in Faro Yukon. When we shut this mine down we left 1 billion dollars worth of environmental damage and guess who’s on the hook for paying that ? The Canadian taxpayer. Mining is a dirty business.
It’s a serious pain in the ass to cut and paste Tweeter posts, hope you appreciate this!
