Trying something new: Stand on Top paddleboarding

SOT (stand on top) paddleboarding grows in popularity and looks like fun.

I found that in my case it should be called S(b)OT for “standing briefly on top” paddleboarding. Either my balance or stiff joints made this very much a keystone cops routine for me. I couldn’t take my own picture out on the water, but these are my classmates. Bare in mind, they all did better than me.

Editorial: Tea Party, Fix Your Gaze On 2012

But lets kick their ass (donkey) a few more times in 2011 first!

House Committee passes bill requiring your ISP to spy on every click and keystroke you make online and retain for 12 months

Sponsor of bill a Republican, Rep. Lamar Smith. This is why the Tea Party is not a wing of the GOP, get right down to it and we don’t trust either of them.

A leading climate scientist whose report in 2006 of drowning polar bears in Arctic waters galvanized the global warming movement — and was highlighted in Al Gore’s Oscar-winning climate-change documentary — has been suspended, possibly over the accuracy of his observations.

Read the following and weep, or laugh.

Default, Dear Brutus, Is Not In Our Stars, But In Ourselves

August 2 is but a few days away, and you know what that means: I need to buy mom a birthday card. Also THE COMMENCEMENT OF THE BUDGETARY MELTDOWN END DAYS WHERE WE FACE FINAL ARMAGEDDON UNLESS WASHINGTON GETS ITS BAR TAB RAISED ANOTHER TRILLION. Or something.

I know the consequences of failing to do so are too horrible to contemplate, but I went ahead and contemplated them anyway. This resulted in a bunch of 140-characters-or-less prophecies for the  Twitter hashtag #ConsequencesofDefault,  which I have edited and compiled for your edification. If my inner Nostradamus is any guide, the post-apocalyptic future of August 3, 2011 looks grim indeed:

Beltway policy experts begin living by own wits; after 45 minutes there are no survivors. Continue reading

Rolling Back the Nanny State

One red-light camera at a time

Boston is starting to install these things, I already have very little reason to enter the socialist capital of the east coast. I hope they don’t spend too much money on them, with all the used units available they should get them cheap.

US GDP growth disappoints as economy stagnates in first quarter

The government also revised data for the previous eight years. The changes showed the recession was worse than previously thought, and the recovery has been weaker.

The economy shrank 5.1pc during the recession from December 2007 through June 2009, compared with earlier estimates of 4.1pc.

If they had asked me I’d could have told them that three years ago.

My mother could do that

Pictures of the day: 28 July 2011

This is the embarrassing moment a motorist caused chaos in Monaco when her Bentley was involved in a collision with four other sports cars. Hundreds of tourists watched in shock as the hapless blonde crashed her £250,000 Bentley Azure outside the Principality's Place du Casino. The driver of a white Mercedes S Class worth £75,000 was the first victim as the Bentley scraped down the side of it before crashing into a £140,000 black Ferrari F430. An Aston Martin Rapide worth £140,000 and an £80,000 Porsche 911 both suffered damage after being involved in the incident.

My mother crashed into a Porsche 911 while pulling out of her street, though insured by a small obscure carrier she had managed to hit another car insured by the same insurance carrier. So they were not interested in investigating the accident to determine blame.

New Cellular Network Could Lead to Hundreds of Deaths, FAA Report Says

Say what!!!?

All 53 Senate Dems sign letter to Boehner: Your bill will never pass

Well, its official then. The difference between crooks and honest men, crooks first principle is “Never give back the money!”.

The view from Chaos Manor: There will be no cuts.

Jerry suggests a 1% cut in Federal Entitlements and all Federal spending, across the board.

Ten things that happen if the Boehner bill gets through

It’s this bill or nothing, and can the Democrats really refuse to approve this bill in the Senate? If they do everyone of their constituents in their home states will be hurt badly. And they will have no one else to blame and no plan of their own. It could be the end of the Democratic Party. (it might almost be worth it) CALL THEIR BLUFF!

The Devils in the Cows

The Devil’s in the Cows by Sippican Cottage

One of the benchmarks of our culture’s decline is that our best writers are barely known and our worst writers are widely celebrated. One of the hopeful thoughts that springs from this is that the celebration of bad writers is an artifact of the final era in which publishers and editors were the gatekeepers of what passed for our literature. Wednesday News

Question of the Day: Are “Gun-Free Zones” Really “Target-Rich Environments”?

I couldn’t help but notice that the weekend’s tragedy in Norway bears a striking resemblance to those at Virginia Tech, Columbine, Fort Hood, and others across These United States. Nope. I’m not talking about the shooter being a full-goose Bozo, ass-clown, who doesn’t have two, lucid brain cells to rub together. Nor am I talking about their choice in weapons, amount of ammo, or the number killed. No, I’m speaking of these idiot’s undying affection for “gun free zones” . . .

Note: All of Norway is one great big “gun free zone.” In the media, we’re hearing endless tales of how “peaceful” a country Norway is. (Yeah, that Viking heritage and peaceful Norse gods like Thor just fade into the mists of time at a time like this, don’t they?) But all those gun laws in Norway seem to have done just about as much good there as they do here.

In Norway, only the cops and military have guns. Except for the crazies and the criminals. But the law-abiding folks, they’re gun-free.

So I ask you, do gun-free zones attract homicidal nutjobs like trailer parks seem to attract tornados, or is it just a coincidence that the mass-murderers seem to prefer gun-free locales for their target practice, oh about 10 to 1?

Quote of the Day:

“I could end the deficit in 5 minutes. You just pass a law that says that anytime there is a deficit of more than 3% of GDP all sitting members of congress are ineligible for reelection.”

How many ships does the Navy have?

Poll: Romney Out in Front Among Declared GOP 2012 Candidates

Can we agree that on Sept 1st 2012 whoever is ahead on that day we all back as the candidate to run against Obama? Because whoever it is will be 100% better than Barry. Then no stinking 3nd party crap, no sitting on our hands or sitting it out. Because this one is for all the marbles.
