October 7: The Feast of Our Lady of Victory

The Battle of Lepanto

For those who know little history, today’s battle with the Islamic State in the Middle East may seem new and unprecedented. It is not. In a.d. 622, Mohammed set out from Medina to conquer the whole Christian world for Allah by force of arms. Within a hundred years, his successors had occupied and pillaged every Christian capital of the Middle East, from Antioch through North Africa (home of Saint Augustine) and Spain. All that remained outside Allah’s reign was the northern arc from Southern France to Constantinople. What we are seeing in 2014 has a history of more than 1,300 years — a very bloody, terror-ridden history. Except that today the struggle is far, far more secular than religious — a war over political institutions and systems of law, with almost no public argument over religious doctrine.

1571, October 7th.

The Battle of Lepanto.  After decades of attacks on coastal cities in Greece, the Balkans, Italy, France and Spain; the great Islamic fleet that was assembled for conquest was brought to battle by a Christian Fleet from many nations and city-states.

The British are justifiably proud of what they did in 1588 and the Battle of Britain.   But if the Christians had lost at Lepanto, very likely it would have been a Muslim Europe in 1940.

1683, September 11-12.

Vienna, The Siege of.  September 11th (funny that?) 1683 the Muslim-Turkish forces outside of an exhausted Vienna were attacked by the Catholic relief armies of Poland and Hungary.

To those who say that violence has never solved anything…Bullshit!  Without the courage, blood and sacrifice of our Christian fore-bearers, we would be slaves to an insane demon cult of slavers.

Later this week, The Battle of Tours!

Always something to worry about.

Space Weather reports:

Could northern summer 2019 go down in history as “the summer without sunspots”? From June 21st until Sept 22nd, the sun was blank more than 89% of the time.

During the entire season only 6 tiny sunspots briefly appeared, often fading so quickly that readers would complain to Spaceweather.com, “you’ve labeled a sunspot that doesn’t exist!” (No, it just disappeared.) Not a single significant solar flare was detected during this period of extreme quiet.

This is a sign that Solar Minimum is underway and probably near its deepest point.

The last Solar Maximum was ‘way down too . Keep in mind, the Carrington Event of 1859 occurred at Solar Minimum .

Solar Minimum:  Lower energy output from the Sun.  During other historical Solar Minimums, epic levels of human deaths occurred.

Carrington Event:  The last event occurred during a time when the human race wasn’t using any electronics and the most important electrical device was the Telegraph.  And telegraph keys welded themselves shut from the effects of the event.  Today a similar, equal event would kill at least two billion humans by killing our infrastructure.

Climate Wars.

Authored by Richard Trzupek via The Epoch Times,

The message was clear: “There is no climate emergency.”

With those five simple words, a global network of scientists and professionals attempted to inject reasonableness and decorum into what should be a robust discussion about a complex scientific and public policy issue, but has instead degenerated into an ever more intense mud-slinging contest over the years.

People on one side of the argument dismiss their opponents as wild-eyed socialists attempting to leverage public fear and ignorance to further their political agenda. On the opposite side, people dismiss those who disagree with their supposedly settled scientific conclusions as nothing more than knowing shills or ignorant dupes of evil energy interests.

In between those extremes that are so popular with armies of public relations professionals, who shape the messages of public interest groups and professional politicians to maximum effect, are a not-so-quiet silent majority of scientists and professionals who take a more measured, reasoned view of the science when considering the supposed climate emergency some say we’re facing.

A group of 500-some scientists and professionals signed on to the “European Climate Declaration” that was released last week. This simple, short, and understandable statement proposed how analysis of any public policy issue involving complex science should be approached from a reasoned, fact-based perspective.

Statements such as “97 percent of climatologists agree that anthropogenic climate change is occurring” isn’t a statement of fact, it’s an opinion twice removed. It’s an opinion that involves evaluation of the legitimacy of how the results of the poll in question were sorted to dismiss some answers and allow others, and it’s an opinion in terms of how representative the sample size is with respect to all climate professionals.

Statements such as “modeling shows that catastrophic climate change will occur in the next [pick a number] years unless drastic changes are made” is also an opinion. It’s an opinion because the results of any model, and in particular any model that purports to predict the future of anything as complex as the entire planet’s climate system, necessarily relies on a multitude of choices made by the model’s designer. The relative importance of the many, many factors that go into the model’s complex calculations are based on the judgments of the model designer, and those judgments are matters of opinion, not statements of fact.

In a letter sent to António Guterres, secretary-general of the United Nations, the leaders of the European Climate Declaration urged the U.N. to “follow a climate policy based on sound science, realistic economics, and genuine concern for those harmed by costly but unnecessary attempts at mitigation.”

Hundreds of scientists and professionals from 13 European nations signed on to the Declaration, supported by fellow signatories from 10 other countries outside the European Union. I was honored to be asked to be one of the signatories from the United States and most enthusiastically agreed to do so.

There is likely to be much criticism of the professional qualifications of many of the signatories, since many, like me, are not climatologists. And yet, so many people speaking out on the issue of climate change who are convinced there is a climate emergency have so little personal understanding of the science involved in the discussion.

Politicians such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), would-be politicians like Tom Steyer, and pundits such as MSNBC’s Chris Matthews have little or no personal understanding of the actual scientific principles involved. They can point to their preferred “expert” and declare that we should trust him or her without question, but they don’t know why.

Even professionals such as mechanical engineer Bill Nye and astronomer Phil Plait, who are very much experts in their own fields, have demonstrated that they have little personal knowledge of the nuances of climate science, though they use their positions and popularity to assume positions of authority regarding this singular issue. Other vocal non-climatologists such as Lord Monckton, Anthony Watts, Mark Steyn, Steve McIntyre, or a chemist and air quality professional who moonlights as a contributor to The Epoch Times, grasp the principles far more.

I will close with three important claims that form part of the European Climate Declaration. I believe each to be accurate, and hope that reasonable people can use these claims, and the others contained in the declaration, as the basis for civilized, respectful, and meaningful discussions in the future.

One: “The world has warmed at less than half the originally predicted rate, and at less than half the rate to be expected on the basis of net anthropogenic forcing and radiative imbalance. It tells us that we are far from understanding climate change.

Two: “Climate models have many shortcomings and are not remotely plausible as policy tools. Moreover, they most likely exaggerate the effect of greenhouse gases such as CO2. In addition, they ignore the fact that enriching the atmosphere with CO2 is beneficial.”

Three: “There is no climate emergency. Therefore, there is no cause for panic and alarm. We strongly oppose the harmful and unrealistic net-zero CO2 policy proposed for 2050. If better approaches emerge, we will have ample time to reflect and adapt. The aim of international policy should be to provide reliable and affordable energy at all times, and throughout the world.”

Well said. Well said, indeed.

Oh Damn!

World War II bomber plane crashes in Connecticut, multiple people injured

WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. (AP) — A World War II-era bomber plane crashed in a fireball as it tried to land Wednesday at New England’s second-busiest airport, and a fire-and-rescue operation was underway, official said.

I was up in that B-17 over fifteen years ago, I lost most of the photos I took in the house fire.  I have a few scans I had put on-line years ago.

And an old post from 2011.

For an on-line friend

I’m hoping there is no lost of life, but from the description it seems unlikely that wish will be fulfilled.  Praying for the crew and passengers.

UK Rugby Referees Quitting Over Transgender Players Breaking Women’s Bones

The story was based on statements from referees, not a picture. If you wish to take issue with the article, take issue with their sourcing and provide exculpatory evidence. Meanwhile, the absurdity, danger and unfairness of he underlying issue noted above remains.

The Trump Inquisition Investigation!

NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquiry!

Our chief weapon is slander…slander and falsehoods…falsehoods and slander….

Our two weapons are falsehoods and slander…and ruthless inefficiency….

Our *three* weapons are falsehoods, and slander, and ruthless inefficiency…and an almost fanatical devotion of the Press…. Our *four*…no…

*Amongst* our weapons…. Amongst our weaponry…are such elements as falsehoods, slander…. I’ll come in again.

Is it insanity when the doctors are supporting it?

Puberty blocking drugs used on “trans kids” have killed more than 6,000 people

Here’s a horror show of a story that you’re probably not going to see on CNN anytime soon. A report emerged on Thursday indicating that the puberty-blocking drug Leuprolide Acetate (Lupron) has resulted in tens of thousands of serious “adverse reactions” in patients, including more than six thousand deaths. That’s bad enough, but it’s even more significant when you consider that this is one of the drugs being administered by doctors to so-called “transgender children” to unnaturally prevent their normal sexual development. And the testing done on the drug by the FDA for such applications appears to be thin at best. (Daily Wire)

You can do a search of the FDA’s incident reports here and enter the name of the drug (Lupron) to see their data.

What adults, including transgender individuals, choose to do with their own bodies is their business as long as they’re willing to take responsibility for the results. But the experiments being performed on confused young children who have been convinced that they were somehow born the “wrong gender” are simply monstrous. Blocking the natural arrival of puberty in otherwise healthy children should be considered child abuse and medical malpractice to begin with.

Even five years ago what these people are doing would have (rightly) been seen as wrong and when children are also being involved, Evil.

Aesop says…

Just so we’re clear here:

Then-Veep Biden, in a flagrant display of nepotism and outright corruption while in office, extorted Ukraine into firing their prosecutor, when said prosecutor was investigating shenanigans by the company on which his son, Hunter Biden, fresh from being kicked out of the Naval Reserve for being a dope fiend, sat on the board of directors, and was then collecting a salary of $50,000 a month. Doubtless for his sterlilng business acumen, and not at all because he was the ne’er-do-well son of the sitting VPOTUS.

(And I have a bridge for sale cheap if you believe that one…)

Biden has admitted he did exactly this, and no one’s whispering a word about investigating that, charging or prosecuting him for it, or anyone pulling Gropey Dopey Joe aside, and suggesting he take a gun and one bullet, and go seclude himself and do the honorable thing, for the Dumbocrat Party and the country’s sake.

Instead, President Trump is being investigated (!), for asking the Ukrainians, in compliance with a treaty signed into law by Bill Clinton, fulfill their obligations, and investigate said corruption, in pursuit of criminal conduct, including that by a sitting US government official, in exact obedience to the oath of office he took on January 20, 2017, to “take care that the laws be faithfully executed“, as he is charged to do in Article II, Section 3 of the United States Constitution.

In short, Demented Nancy & Co,. are investigating a sitting president for upholding his oath of office faithfully, and thus seeking to remove him from office for doing his job exactly as intended for every occupant of the White House since 1787.

If they succeed in their fifth sixth open coup attempt since 2016, or damage Trump to the point that he loses in 2020, and the Dems aren’t swept out of control of the House next year by a landslide, you can look forward to one thing above all others.

I think there’s almost certainly going to be a shooting war in the streets. Whether over just this, or the totality of the treason going on non-stop since 11/9/2016.

Because at that point, there will be no further reason to do our revolutions every four years peacefully, as we’ve done for 230+ years.

Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable. ” – President John F. Kennedy

And the Dumbocrats are doing this because they think they can win that war.

Which, quite frankly, should scare the hell out of every sane person in the country.
Once that Pandora’s Box is open, no one alive has any idea what the results will be before it’s closed again.

Seems fair…

A Judgment Day Fable  by Old Bathos

Jeff Zucker of CNN, Dean Baquet of the New York Times, and Martin Baron of the Washington Post are all killed in a tragic accident at a gathering of leading news executives.

They find themselves standing together before shining heavenly gates and a pleasant young man at a desk greets them. “Hello, I am the senior assistant to the admissions committee, and I am here to guide you through the process. Here is your life record which will be the basis upon which you will be evaluated. Please look it over carefully.” He hands each of them an enormous bound stack of hundreds of pages.

Baron reacts angrily: “The first pages are nothing but false horrible accusations!”

Baquet and Zucker also complain that their records also open with terrible falsehoods.

The young man smiles and says, “No problem.” He takes a fresh stack of paper and an ornate feathered quill pen and writes “Retraction” in large letters on the top of each page, copies and edits each offensive item to a retraction page and then carefully adds the pages to the bottom of each man’s record and rebinds each record with an enormous heavenly stapler.

“You can go in and present your life résumés to the committee now.”

Dean Baquet objects. “But the false horrible stuff is still on the top pages. No one is going to read down to the bottom where you put the retractions.”

“Exactly,” said the assistant. “Best of luck in there.”
