Heinlein

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man.
Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded -- here and there, now and then -- are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty. This is known as "bad luck." -- Robert A. Soleimani’s Perfect Punch-out.
Top commander’s assassination leaves Iran with very few options to retaliate
The operation was very well planned, organized and executed. The United States had access to very sensitive information and likely had been tracking Soleimani’s movements and activity for a long time.
The scene was indeed set perfectly. Washington could not have chosen a better time, as after a series of protests from Baghdad to Tehran and Beirut, Soleimani had lost some public support and was seen as part of Iran’s suppression system against people and their free wills. The attack on the US Embassy in Baghdad had also turned the majority of Iraqi political forces and the international community against Soleimani as the highest — albeit unofficial — leader of the PMU. The location turned out to be perfect as well. The strike took place in Iraqi territory, raising questions among the Iraqi public about the reason for an Iranian general being present in Iraq, especially after accusations facing Iran-backed forces of killing Iraqi protesters and abducting many of them. Selecting a quiet place in the airport also prevented the killing of any civilians that might allow Iran to victimize themselves and demonize the United States.
…
This all indicates that Iran and its proxies in the region most likely would not seek revenge in the near future and — in regard to Iraq, in particular — would not lead Iraq to fall into a civil war or mass destruction, because it would lose even more in Iraq if it takes such a risk.
Iran is also very unlikely to push its Iraqi political forces to go ahead with legislation asking US troops to leave the country, as this would raise strong objections from Kurdish and Sunni forces and push them to work for separation. Iran would be the first party affected by such a dangerous move.
I wouldn’t mind seeing the USA leave both Iraq and Afghanistan at the same time, both were “Bush’s Folly”. But going into Iraq without a idea or a plan for how to run the country after we deposed Saddam and the Ba’ath Party was the first mistake. Obie’s rapid retreat in his first term was the second mistake. And bugging out now that ISIS is chilled but Iran is still a player would be the third. That doesn’t hold for Afghanistan, we should get out of there tomorrow.
But killing Soleimani was a win-win; in Iraq, in Syria, in Iran with the anti-regime forces.

Some people don’t know when to shut up.
After Soleimani death, Colin Kaepernick decries US ‘terrorist attacks against Black and Brown people’
Former NFL player Colin Kaepernick on Saturday accused the United States of targeting minorities “at home and abroad,” just days after the administration ordered a drone strike that killed Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani.
“There is nothing new about American terrorist attacks against Black and Brown people for the expansion of American imperialism,” he tweeted.
What a dick.
When I saw this headline I thought it had to be The Babylon Bee.
Lori Loughlin hires prison expert to advise her on life behind bars
The actress, 55, currently faces up to 45 years behind bars and she’s reportedly hired a prison expert who is advising her on what life will be like in a correctional facility if she is sentenced.
“She has someone who is advising her what to do in case she loses her case and goes to prison,” a source told People magazine.
But no it’s real and it’s Hollywood!
Quote of the day: Bureaucracies
American Thinker – Bureaucratic agencies become ideal tools for tyrants. A tyrant can point his agencies in a particular direction and unleash them. They immediately glory in their new power. Horrors ensue.
Nazi Germany gave us the Holocaust and war. Stalin used betrayal. Friends betrayed friends. Children spied on parents. Sound familiar?
Antifa anyone? Black Lives Matter anyone? Greta anyone? Mao lives! In this country Congress has ceded much of its power to unchecked regulatory agencies, allowing them to write their own regulations to prosecute, and persecute, anyone who might stand in an agency’s way.

Truer words were never spoken.
“The Marines have landed and the situation is well in hand.”

Baghdad Embassy attack.
You are going to hear that an American embassy was successfully attacked by Islamic militants under President Trump’s watch. That is partially true. It’s true that the Baghdad Embassy was attacked. But without human losses on the American side.
As for “widespread damage, smoke and fire”; “Smoke was still seen rising from a reception room in the embassy and an embassy checkpoint was left in complete ruins from the conflagration.”
In other words, they were stopped at the front door. It wasn’t even a hundredth of a “Benghazi”.
For this attack President Trump will exact a ‘proportional’ and measured response.
From Iran, from whom this attack was directed. The response will hurt. It will be something they will miss when it’s gone. But they will not get the war they need to divert their own populace from their anger with their own government.
I truly believe that the American Democrats implored the Iranians to “Do something” to give them an issue they can run on for next November. And since it would serve the Mullahs well to divert the unhappiness with the Iranian government, they agreed.
They may come to regret that decision.
Think about this in relationship to the Texas Church shooting.
An old post from 2013…
Cops Gone Wild: Sometimes You Really Want the Police to Be Minutes Away. And Stay There.
Torrence police open fire on vehicle “matching description” (it didn’t) of suspect Ex-LA Cop Dorner (Large Black Male), hitting the two Hispanic (small) women inside.
Civilians carrying firearms know that they must account for their actions, no CCW citizen would have “lit up” that vehicle like that, and if they did, they would not be sleeping in their own beds tonight.
P.S. Count the bullet holes, do you think the Cops are the ones who should be limited to 7 Round magazines?
In Texas, during the church shooting. Another five members of the church stood up and drew their firearms in response to the church assault in Texas. But Jack Wilson stopped the attack with one shot fired. (elapsed time 2.3 seconds)
No other members of that church standing there with drawn firearms fired even one single additional round. All immediately holstered their guns.
I doubt that there is a police department in the country that could have equaled that performance.
