Started from seeds, Four O’clock flowers.
It’s been a lousy year for cucumbers and the tomatoes have been slow to ripen but we’ve still made a lot of salads from fixings from the garden. The herbs in the porch planters make a delicious Buttermilk Ranch Dressing;
1 cup buttermilk (or mayonnaise)
1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 teaspoon dried dill weed
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
Next year I’m going to plant some fresh Dill and Green Onions. I’ve tried garlic but the garlic at the farm stand is better.
Nice!, I’ve been gardening since I was a kid, and am active locally with the Master Gardener program and the green industry. This year was a bust, as I had foot problems in June, and that threw a monkey wrench into my plans. Do you use rain barrels? That saves us a lot. I mulch like mad as well.

Mulch, mulch, mulch… yup.
I should be using rain barrels as I have a large garage with a lot of S.F., but this year it would have been a bust. After only 2.5 inches in July. Less than .5 in in August and under one inch (so far) in Sept. it would have been inadequate for my needs.
I’m actually looking into a well. When we cleared the area behind the garage for planting they found a colonial era well (filled in). There are wetlands several hundred yards away in the nearby park so I think that might be worth the money, and putting money into increasing the value of the property is probably the best thing to do with your money these days.

Yah, I see. Be great to get that well active. Hope the town doesn’t get involved with those wetlands so close. I worked on the upper and mid Cape in the eighties and the Conservation Commissions were brutal to deal with. Bristol and Plymouth counties weren’t much different. A few of us at church were discussing codes, etc, I related my experiences back home, and they were rather taken aback at the BS one had to go through to get permits and the like. The Reds have been making a lot of noise the last few days, so I expect some more new mandates will be handed down from the crown soon.
